Toyo Open Country AT3 vs Falken Wildpeak AT3W

I've been trying to decide between these two as well, glad I ran across this thread. Since I have the 2.7 weight was a concern but the two weigh the same. Most of the guys that I wheel with(5th gen Bronco's) seem to prefer the Toyo's.

 

I'm surprised they warranty that. Every tire I've owned has done that after 2years. K02s, Nitto, Falken, stock tires.

 

I just looked, my Wildpeaks say made in Thailand. Year and a half on the truck, 7000 miles. So far, no issues.

 

Not when the sidewalls are slightly different between the two factories.

 

The sidewalls are the same. The Japanese one just has longer vent spews (tire hair). I put almost a 1000 miles on those tires in the last week and now they look identical. ATIII are definitely better than ATII. I just hope that they won't crack and last me 40-50k miles.

 

I have the at2 and my son went to at3. They do ride better, look better and over all yes, they are a nicer tire. The at2s are not too bad!

 

I liked them too on dry pavement, however on wet surface they were not that stable. I hope ATIII are improvement in that department.

 

Never seen that but I don't think my Tacoma has been in the rain. My son's drives great in the rain.

 

I've had the Toyos for about 14 months now and I've gone 13,000 miles and have lost less than 3/32nds of tread with 3,000 mile rotates. Very pleased with on and off road traction wet or dry

 

I buy American when I can. It's an easy choice when it comes to tires since so many are made here, by Americans who want to work.

That said, most sizes of the Toyos are US made, but I'd verify before purchase. Some of the Falkens are US made. I'd buy either as long as they are made here. There is no way in hell I'd by tires made in China though.

I love my ATIIIs and will buy again.

 

I'm trusting your review and getting the Toyo A/T III. 99% of my driving is highway so I was concerned about sound. I hope you know what you're talking about LOL. I'm also sticking with stock size and wheels.

Remember they are all terrain but mine are still very good...proper tire pressure and alignment are also key components. One thing I can say about them over most other A/T tires is that they are at over 20,000 miles now and I haven't needed to rebalance or shave/true not one of them. I can't say that about quite a few of the other brands out there. Air pressure at 32psi and see how you like them. You'll like this tire.

 

ATIII are definitely an improvement over ATII, mostly in a wet where it really matters. Over a 1000 miles and so far very happy with them.

 

Does anyone know if the wildpeaks are siped to full depth? Or are they partial like good years?

What's the verdict? Been going back and forth between these two brands for a while.

 

Tirerack says this is the one weak point on the Toyo ATIII -- poor wet traction. The one thing keeping me from pulling the trigger.
