i've been looking at toyo's max traction tire (gets good reviews, found a good price)...then i noticed they have two options for the "32 inch" tire size: 265/75R16, which most people get, and 285/70R16. i'm thinking i like that size but have a few questions:

    1. going to put it on a stock wheel (16x7)...i know a few people have put 285/75r16 on stockers w/o much trouble. what do you think?

    2. anybody think i'll have issues with no spacers, or will i need spacers? and will the extra width cause the same rubbing on the inner fender that people get with the 33's, even though it's a wide 32?

a now a couple of lift questions i'll sneak in here:

i have an AAL for a non tsb truck, but i have tsb springs. anybody know how much i'll have to trim off the back of the leaf for it to fit between the clamps? measuring from the center pin hole to the back is about 16 3/4 inches which seems to be about what it is from the center pin to the back clamp on the tsb springs. how much do i need to take off for extra space? also, do i need to get new u-bolts for an add a leaf?

thanks for the help, and let me know what you think about that tire size.

I think that you'd need some wheel spacers to clear the UCAs with the 285's.
As for the lift q's- If your AAL has the anti-friction pads, just trim back to where the hole for it is cut off, then re-drill a new set of holes for the pads and reinstall them. Thats what I did. I think it was maybe 1" to 1 1/2" I trimmed. Stock Ubolts should still fit.

thanks relentless, but how about if i have tc uca's? still need spacers to clear those or do they have a smaller enough profile?

Hmm. on that I'm not too sure. I dont have any aftermarket UCAs on, and havent heard an answer to that question before. I would think there may still be contact though and wheelspacers would still be necessary. Maybe someone else has had this experience and can shine a little light on this........

for anyone whose interested...i finally found out some new info from this guy:

    http://www.tacomaterritory.com/forum/showthread.php?p=1577225

this thread has good info on the 285/70 R16 Toyo open country MT on 2nd gen tacos. apparently with 2 to 3 inches of lift it fits with no rubbing or trimming, possibly not even taking the mudflaps off (but not sure about this). with stock wheels and stock uca's the tire will rub the uca a bit. this tire is 32" x 11", larger than a "32" and wider, but not so large as a 33. a good size for our truck, and a good tire all around.

the bad news is toyo is not currently making them and they are on national backorder. www.dubsandtires.com has them but they are expensive. nobody else that i have spoken with has them. toyo hasn't discontinued them, but they don't know when they will start making them again. they said it could be two months, it could be a year. so, rather than wait i got the 265 75 16's. 285/70r16's will definitely be my next tire though.

Who retails these tires? I'm looking for ones closer to stock size, 265/75R16.
