I don't think its a huge difference. And my piece of mind when I'm out on the trails more than makes up for it.

Hey guys I just came across this thread. Awesome information and good lucking trucks! I've narrowed my choices down to the Open Country R/T's and the Discoverer S/T Maxx. How long did you break them in at a lower psi? And how has the tread wear been for the mileage you guys have put on them thus far?

I didn't actually do that, just feel like it would help. And I don't mean at super low psi either.

Not sure how many miles so far, maybe 10-15k? But I'm not seeing any noticeable tread loss yet.

So far, still happy with them. Finally getting some rain and snow in CA, next weekend I might be able to test them in snow.

Oh gotcha. Thanks for the update, I like what I'm hearing so far. I live in Vermont so I'll be interested to hear on how they do in the snow/sleet/rain.

Ok, so I'm up in Tahoe. Was snowing very lightly on the way up. Drove on some side roads that had snow/ice. Tires seemed to do just fine.

Admittedly, I don't have a ton of experience in the snow.

Hey regular cab chiming in with my input. I've put about 5000 miles on my 265/75/16 RT's and so far I absolutely love them.

I like to run them at ~30-32psi cold which allows for a compliant ride, no jarring bumps, and nice grip. I hit up some green and blue trails with them at 18psi and they performed flawlessly. I went through the following without any gripes: basketball size rocks, mud, muddy pools w/ hidden rocks, wet tree stumps and logs, large water crossings, wet sand, and gravel. We were on the trail for about 6 hours and the weather conditions were terrible but the truck and tire worked out really well.

As far as driving on the road they of course are slipping when it is damp out and I'm in 2WD but 4x4 gives no issues. I've learned to slowly apply throttle when on a hill at a stop.

Noise: barely any until 65+ as others have mentioned.

Hydroplaning: so far, so good! I've hit many standing puddles which seem to have zero effect. In PA we get large tire ruts in the road and water will pool in it and I've noticed issues with other vehicles/tires but these seem to be holding up fine.

Snow: I've only driven it a little snow but it seems to handle it alright in 4x4. I purposely smashed the throttle from a dead stop and yanked the wheel 90 degrees making a turn to see how much it would slide/lose traction and it seemed to just grab!

Wear: 5000 miles and the soft "pads" on the lugs are worn down almost all the way. I've now got a full size 5th and will be swapping it into rotation every 5k miles. I do an "X" rotation and then remove the back left and swap with spare.

    Lots of pics: http://clients.zacharyemerick.biz/Cars/Feature/Zacks-2012-Tacoma-Workhorse/

Too many to list. I’m lazy
I’ve had these on both of my trucks. Absolutely love them. Currently running a 295/55/20 and previously a 33/12.50/20. No complaints.

Feel free to hit me up if you want to check them out in person. I need more GA buds anyways haha

Looks good. I don't see that size listed as an option on DiscountTire.com. I do see it available in 285/70/17, which is what I'm considering.

3rd set? You sound like me with the General Grabber AT2! What is the reason you keep purchasing them (if you don't mind elaborating)?

Its been 5+ years...? I've probably put 40+ thousand miles on these tires and they have been great. Still some tread left, and they didn't get much noisier as they wore either (I had the tires rotated with every oil change).

Time for new tires. I like to replace tire before all the tread is gone, can usually get a few hundred on craigslist. I just ordered a set of the new Toyo AT3's, hope it's not a mistake! Just wanted to try something new and they are a little lighter.

40k is probably a reasonable expectation for that tread pattern. Regardless, I appreciate you taking the time to update us with real numbers. That's much more beneficial than someone with under 5k saying they are the best tires ever.

I went from Cooper ST Maxx to Toyo RTs. Cooper’s handled a little better in mud but the RTs ride better and still get me where I’m going. I drive forestry roads 50% of the time (my job) and they perform great.

Had my first squirrelly moment with the R/T, hit a bridge expansion joint in a rainstorm at the same time as a downshift.. no TRC/VSC lights, just felt loose for a second and then back in line..

Would expect the same from most lugged treads.
