Hello all! I am in the market for the new set of tires. I currently am leaning towards the Toyo Open Country R/T in 285/70/17s. Originally, I wanted to get the BFG KO2. However, I've read quite a few bad reviews about the KO2. I have read that it starts to get a lot louder over 10k miles. Only 20-25k miles life out of the tires and BFG doesn't offer warranty.

I want the aggressive look, but decenlty quiet on the road. I've ran PRO COMP XTREME MT on my 1st gen Tacoma. I honestly think that they're are great tires. It wasn't noisy, (IMO) and I got 60k miles out of them.

So, AT or RT? Two friends of mine are running the Toyo Open Country R/T, Tundra and FJ. About 5 months old on the FJ and 3 weeks old on the Tundra. I rode on both vehicles and I think that the R/Ts are fairly quiet on the road. And both vehicles haven't been on snow or mud/4wheeling. If anyone has something good or bad to say about Toyo. Please feel free to comment below. Any minor or major issues with the R/T, "hybrid"? 5k,10k or 15k mile reviews? Would be greatly appreciated. TIA!

    ps
3rd gen Taco is a DD and will occasionally use to it go camping/trail/ (light) overlanding.

I have the Toyo at's... I think the been great so far.

Plus I got them cheaper than k02s would have been, and they are lighter and didn't have much of an effect on mpg

I know a buddy with Toyo ATs that have treated him very well he constantly changes wheel and tire set ups so I couldn't say how they do longevity wise. They road nice and were pretty quiet.

Not sure if you've checked out Terra grapplers? I had a set on two different trucks, both lasted about 50k, were quiet on road and held up very well in the sandy/slippery boat ramps. Not the most aggressive looking tire though.

Awesome! What size tires are you running? According to some youtube vids, TOYO R/T is just as quiet as A/T. I seriously don't mind buying A/T since its a DD truck. I am going to lift it, of course. But not doing any mudding or something to that extreme. Too broke to that and truck is perrrrrty for it. lol

GOING OFF TOPIC FOR A BIT...
DUAN, I HATE YOU!!! LOL. Just kidding. Nice effffin Taco!!!. Yes, I am a fanboy. I am PROSER. I have a 17' BLK OR with TRD PRO Grille, tail lights, fog lights and headlights (cost more most han a suspension lift kits) Other topic, why I bought the headlights. I will create another thread on TW about a shop here in CALI. I wished that PRO didn't cost 54-57k here in Central and Northern Cal. Otherwise, I would have bought a PRO. Actually, maybe...I want a black and a long bed, so went with an OR instead.

Yeah, those RTs definitely look more like MT. How many miles do you have on it? Noise, city and highway? Nice truck, nice wheels and tires!!!

LOL i'm loving my taco thanks!

The RT's are surprisingly nice there's a little bit of whirring from the tires but nothing compared to the MT's. I have <500 miles on them and aside from jaunts to jobs sites I have not really taken it offroad yet

haha. NEITHER. I use to play Battlefield games on PC. This guy from the east coast kept saying that I cheating and I have an aimbot program. He kept saying, "that shit is bananas or thats bananas yo!" and when I use to do track days, I also have heard some guy said the same thing. i thought it was funny and ever since then it became my avatar name on southbay riders and bay area riders forum (barf). Track day comes and up until I got my clubman racing license. I got stuck with the name bananas. haha. So, I told this PC gamer its banana$$$_yo with dollar signs, because its a money shot, "yo"

Running KO2's. Noisy but I've gotten used to it. I haven't ran a winter in them yet so the jury's still out on if i'll get again.

Thank you!! You're absolutely right. I couldn't agree with you more. 35s and aren't loud? That is pretty impressive. What tires are you using on your 3rd get taco now?

    "loud" is highly subjective though

Not to add salt to the wound. So the KO2s are noisy? I have also read that after it gets worst after 10-15k miles. Thank you for time and keep us posted when you do run them this winter. I am curious myself, how KO2 performs in the snow. My gf and I take a trip up to Mt. Shasta every December to visit her fam. Yes, surprisingly, my first gen taco with pro comp mt held up well. Only once, I was told by the highway patrol to put chains.

I can confirm, we have fleet trucks and they were equipped with KO2's and i noticed that they do get louder as the miles accumulate

Wow. For an A/T tire? I am not a tire expert. But that doesn't good at all to me. About the R/T. Hows the grip/traction on the road? Does the side wall have a lot of flexibility? Rain?

The noise isn't terrible, but I only have about 5k on them so far.
