They have a a lot in common, front suspension is the same, same rear ends (different springs) HiLux gets a fully boxed frame. You can get with the 4 and 6 cylinder gasser as the Tacoma too.

This article goes into more detail:

I agree with them being ugly but that seems unnecessarily homophobic.

No, but it's the closest destination to buy one that you could actually try to drive back.

Your thought process is very limited. I never wrote I want to drive that Hilux in US or Canada... Nor I want to bring it here.

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
I'd rock it, hell yeah for a 40mpg diesel and hopefully a manual trans option behind it. I'd be all over it in a heartbeat.

Lol. I have my ten year passport, which I renewed just last year and half of my pages are already filled. Nice try on the trailer park reference too

I did see some Hilux's last time I was out and about in the world. Funny thing is that I found way more Mazda and Ford mid sized trucks than anything else.

If you are talking about 40 mpg Highway from the Hilux in other countries you are likely seeing the imperial gallon. There is ~1.2 US gallons in an imperial gallon, so 36 miles per imperial gallon is about 30 miles per US gallon. That's right about where a small diesel should be for HIGHWAY fuel economy, with a combined probably closer to 24-26 miles per US gallon IRL

You know what the stats say, the most homophobic people are really just angry with their own closeted sexual preference. They deal with said anger by lashing out at others with homophobic slurs.

Sorry but i have to say I like the way the Tacoma looks better than the New Hilux. The Hilux looks like a lifted Sienna

IIRC they get high 20's to 30.

When I lived in Southern Arizona, would see them time to time up from Mexico, they only offered the petrol version though.

Think I took this while driving my buddy's VW TDI...after driving his car...man, I hear ya though 40 mpg would be nice!

Again, alot of people are pulling data from the UK or Europe where they have a larger gallon called the Imperial Gallon. The US gallon is smaller hence the EU Diesel, and every MPG number for that matter, look far better when you pull mpg data from there because you are working in the wrong units.

Plus D fanboys tend to concentrate on the highway numbers posted on ads, rather than IRL combined numbers.

Does fuelly account for that when you do the conversions?

This one in particular, US gallon is at 29.3, then switch it over to UK it goes to 35.2.

seems spot on when you do the same to a VW oil burner.

According to the Toyota Europe site the 2.5L diesel 4x4 5-speed (I guess theres no 2.5L auto) gets 7.3L/100km combined driving that = 32.22 mpg. Yes, US gallons.

the 3.0L auto gets 8.6L/100km combined which = 27.35 MPG (US gallons)

The new 2.8L should be able to get even better.

The new Ranger crew cab 4x4 auto 3.2L with 346ft lbs torque and 7700 pound towing capacity is rated at 10L/100km which = 23.52 miles per US gallon. The best MPG Ranger 2.2L diesel returns 35+ rated hwy miles/ US gallon. Diesels notoriously hit better than advertised mpgs so these figures could easily be higher.

Head to head diesel trucks poop on gas trucks. The Hilux gets better MPG and has higher load capacities. The only area a 2016 Tacoma will beat a 2016 Hilux is in off the line unloaded drag races. Yea, I really need that in my truck.

Hilux is built with what we would call a half ton suspension system. The rest of the world uses small trucks like we use half tons. Unless Toyota or someone else starts forcing the trend towards smaller more capable trucks we can all stop dreaming of 1/4 tons with 1/2 ton like numbers.

As for the Diesel argument I won't go there. Yes the engine is more efficient but none of us know after getting the engines to pass NA standards where the MPG or power would be. I'm honestly pretty sick of the Diesel arguemnet. Just give me a good truck that does what I want and I could give two shits what fuel it burns as long as I can afford it. I can afford the trucks I current own in my family, all gas jobs, just fine.

As for the imperial argument go back a few pages. Someone threw out 36 mpgs for the Hilux, which is from the imperial gallon website. That's all I was saying. I do believe fuelly auto converts for whatever region you are in.
