I think that if your airbag light is on, you should go get it repaired with the parts they have now, even though you will want to get it done again when they have the redesigned part available. In the event of an accident, your airbag may not work if you don't.

No, I think that if your airbag light is on, they will fix it , they are aware of the problem, so they should not be charging for this fix anymore.

Ha no love. The manager who set my appointment was not there when I went in and the DB Assistant manager wanted to charge me $90 to run the code and tell me what I already know. But I did get an $9 oil change. I think I'll try the other dealer in town, as I am done with the Kool one I went to...

    Got my letter today.

Says that if the airbag light comes on, they'll replace the part for free, but that the final repair part is not yet available.

This tells me that the 11/12 models still use the same part.

Once they have enough of the new parts in the pipeline, they'll issue general recall notices to those who got letters... and once those are complete, likely issue a second recall for the newer models.

No urgency on the newer models... it's taken this long for it to become an issue on the '05-'10 models.

    I got my letter today.

My light has been on for over a year. I took it to the stealership I bought it from as soon as the light came on, and when they gave me a thousand dollar quote, I let them know exactly how I felt about it.

I'm calling the service department Monday, as the letter says to do exactly that.

We'll see what they tell me.

    SO!

I call up to Palm Beach Toyota, where I bought my truck. I tell the service department guy that I got the letter for the clockspring in my Tacoma, and it says that I should call if my light is on.

I tell him the lights' been on for 1.5 years, and that I brought the truck to them to have the clockspring issue diagnosed in the first place, and they should have that $1000 quote on file. He says "Come on up, is 9AM too soon?"

I glance at the clock...0810. "Sure, I'll be there!"

Grab my stuff, cooler, book I'm reading, phone, and head out.

0845 hours: I'm at the service department desk. The guy I talked to on the phone is fast, and on point. "Sure, Xaks, sign here and I'll get your truck into service right now."

So I take a seat in the waiting area, open my book, and relax.

0925 hours: "Uh, Mr. Xaks? Yea, um, we don't have *that* part in stock right now. We're ordering one from Jacksonville, it should hopefully be here tomorrow. I'll call you."

    .......

So, after waiting a year and a half...

30 minutes to drive up there

over 30 minutes in the waiting room

another 30 minute drive back home

so I can look forward to

another 30 minute drive up there

and of course another 30 minute drive home

Plus its a gallon of gas each way @ 4.00 per gallon.

Now, my boss bills me out anywhere from $85 - 225 an hour, depending on the work I'm doing.

Anyone care to do the math as to how much I'm in the hole already, AND MY TRUCK STILL ISN'T FIXED?

Fucking A, Toyota. This is why people hate your fucking dealerships.

got my first letter over the weekend. my light has been on since late last year. i'm just gonna wait until the parts are in. no sense in wasting time going know they don't have parts, or have them put in an old one knowing it will fail

the new part isn't ready. That is what I was told. It even has it on the toyota recall web site stating the part isn't ready

Even if you received the letter already I'd hold off and check here periodically with your VIN http://www.toyota.com/recall/

You dont want them replacing the spiral cable with the same one you already have

    According to my letter:
"We will send you another notification when replacement parts are ready and preparations are complete"

    Also:
"Toyota is still working on the remedy. You will receive a second owner notification letter when the remedy is available"

I'm reading that as "We have not yet solved the source of the problem, so if your light is not on, sit tight until we get a fix. If your light is on, go ahead and bring your truck in and we'll replace your broken part with another one just like it"

Unfortunately, it's going to be pretty difficult to estimate when we can all (and I'm including 2011 and 2012 owners in that "all") expect a failure.
It's the rotation of the wheel that causes the failure... not mileage or time. A mall-crawler 2010 with 10k on it might show a failure, but a 2005 freeway flier with 150k may not.

All we can do to help each other is if/when you get an airbag light, post up your year and mileage

Got my letter over the weekend as well. But i already went down to the dealer a month or so ago cause i read the article someone posted here and called em up as soon as i read about it. So I have my truck on the list and hopefully it'll be one of the first ones serviced. But I still gotta wait for that second letter:(

Yeah, what I posted wasn't a question I needed the answer to because yes, 1st letter (that I have) says wait for a 2nd letter before having work done & I have no light at the moment. I was pointing the question at the guy who posted above me who said they were ordering his parts right now to get him to think about that. No one has a 2nd letter and no one has posted up about having a new part being put on their truck yet because there is no new replacement part yet so why bother with putting the same defective part on again was where I was trying to take that.

I think the answer would be that the airbag would work again in the meantime. And when the "new" part comes out they would mostlikely have to change it again since they know the replacement the first time was still a defective part.

And swapping the part twice would still be cheaper than a lawsuit for an accident where the airbag didnt deploy bc they were waiting for the second letter. That is why it says it your light is on now, bring it in.

    Just my thoughts.
