Well, at this point in the game I wouldn't bother. I would have to just depend on the seat belt to do it's job like we did back in the olden days and skip the extra wasted time at the dealership. Not sure about you but anytime the dealership has touched the 05, they fucked up something like clips and wiring harnesses and such just trying to hurry too much and hiring mindless fucks who cannot undo them without breaking them then not replacing broken ones, much less trust the important work was done right. No thanks, tired of that shit. I'll wait until the fucking light comes on and if it never does then I won't even bother to have the dealership start fucking up the 08. Just my thoughts.

Called the dealer today since my light has been on for the last 6 months. The service advisor told me that the new spiral cable is only available to people already experiencing the issue of a faulty part. He ordered the new spiral cable and it should be here in a week. He also said that Toyota hasn't massed produced the part to service everyone and once they do they will issue the second recall. Not sure if this is BS or not but it's what he told me.

I hope what your dealer said is true, as about a week after I got the letter, my airbag light went on. I need to get it fixed before August, when my safety check expires, so if they do have a new improved part I need to get it, as I sure as hell don't want to take the truck in more than once.

Read your letters guys.... ilovetaco's dealer is full of shit:
The parts being installed presently are NOT the new, corrected parts. They are the same parts that have already failed.

I'm with you on this one. Three notices for the gas pedal still did not call. Just got my recall notice in the mail for the spiral cable, 80K and light is not on.

For those who are concerned, I took my truck in today and had the spiral cable replaced. The lights off and if any issues arise it'll go back. Dealership kept their promise and I'm happy with no airbag light :)

Made an appt. to have the clock spring done and after 30 mins...uuh we dont have it in stock. I asked when and he told me he would order the part and call, thats been 2 weeks ago. I asked while I was there about the part and if it was the same and he said that it was a different/revised part number. I guess I'll wait till they get some in. I've waited over a year any ways. Mine is an '06. My compass/temp went out too but I sent it to a guy on ebay and he fixed it for $20. Oh yeah, the service mgr. told me that Toyota was only allowing them one spiral cable a day.

Go to the Toyota page, create a freebie account if needed, and enter your VIN. That'll tell you if you are covered by the recall or not. Here, I'll come back with the link in a minute, brb...

    EDITED in:

    Go here:

    https://auth2.toyota.com/owners/web/pages/home

Register. Type in VIN. You're done...it'll tell you what is covered by which recall and what isn't. It won't give you a date to take your vehicle in, but it'll tell you if you're included, and that's what matters.

    Woah, thanks for the link!

Found out through there that it was the second replacement radio I had them put in at 35k...

And that RF wheel bearing AND water pump AND throwout bearing were replaced at 23k... and that the prior owner had the dealer put the TRD wheels onto his new truck :(

And that it's not yet listed for that recall, dag nabit.

Plugged mine in and found only one previous service record.
    Accelerator pedal recall.

Plugged in Wife's '04 Rav4 and the only thing that showed was a failed O2 sensor at around 32k.
Funny that the 2 weeks at a different dealer, replaced ECU, and numerous missing panels and clips when we got it back did not appear.
Stay the fuck away from the Toyota dealer in San Bernardino off the 10/215.

Fog Lamps, Tail gate secured, bed lights, inverter, hitch. Repairs include fan, airbag cable, bypass pipe, valve cover gasket, water pump.
My spiral cable went bad at 75K and was replaced under the (non-Toyota) extended warranty. The part was about $500 US and the labor about $250 (all covered by the warranty). When the light came on again at 150K, I had no warranty left and no desire to spend $750 for a repair that I expected to last only 75K miles, so I stuck tape over the light and kept driving. I hope that Toyota has created a better quality replacement cable this time.

Just got mine fixed today for free. I was glad I made the appt first. Then, I found out I did have the extended warranty and my timing chain cover was leaking oil (TSB thankfully). So, now I take it back in on Thursday and get 2500 dollars worth of MX done for free :). I might try to talk them into doing the rear spring set up too while it is there...

If it's only a 6 year... mine will be up in October. I'm only at 47k myself.

The recall covers all applicable VINs, whether in warranty or out.

TSBs are not freebies, but recalls are.

I was speaking of the TSB's, not the recall. I was talking about the leaking drive chain cover for the freebie, also the added leaf spring.

I had mine done yesterday at the dealership. The service advisor and tech both said I got the new part and not the old one (took about 3 weeks for them to get it).

I am hoping it lasts and doesn't do the same as the old one...If not, I am sure it will be covered down under the road under the recall warranty if the light comes back on.
