So far I've added an Advance folding bed cover and since removed it. Gave it to my son in Maine, he has an 05 2wd. GT perfect fit seat covers. Weathertech floor mats and window vent visors. Waag center brush/grill guard. Hose clamp tailgate mod. Turned off the seat belt chime. Added Ultra-Gauge. Trailer hitch. Softopper. Replaced sun visors with slide out style. Toyota bed extender. Had Firestone Destinations and now Michelin LTX AT2 in stock size. More mods to come; Fog lights, locking storage in bed, intermittent wipers. Now looking for Radio/HU upgrade. and maybe a lift way down the road.
Large rusted out holes ? I know this is NY but you have an 05. That bad already ?

I went to Toyota.com and went to the Owners section and registered my VINs. That part of the site is partially down atm, they're doing a site update about the recalls, but that's the general idea.

This recent batch of recalls are for Japanese production vehicles.

The Rav4 recall was announced a while ago, it also impacts some Tacomas.
This week's recall is an expansion of the spiral cable recall to other models.
There's also a recall regarding the seat tracks.

Are you saying they didn't do it because you don't have steering wheel controls like the audio controls on the steering wheel? What exactly did they say?

I dont have any of that, all I have on mine is cruise control and it actually went defective, as in my Air Bag light went on (hey at least it warned me). I didn't know about the recall until I researched the issue and found it was the main cause for the recall.

I would call them back or better, call a different dealer.

    Other way 'round.
The failed cables are on the trucks that do not have steering wheel controls.

Take it to another dealer... if you got a letter, or the recall is listed under your VIN on TIS, then the recall applies to you.

Create an account, plug in your VIN, and Toyota will tell you what you need.

    Hi all.

Unfortunately it won't give anything about my VIN except for the basic info - IIRC because it was bound for Canada - or something like that.

Any from Canada can go to Toyota.ca, Company info tab, Vehicle Safety section, Recalls and Alerts area. Put in your VIN and it will tell you if anything involves your Taco.

    Cheers
    Ray

Well either way, find a different dealer.
The recall does not state to perform or ignore the recall based on whether or not the truck has steering wheel controls... it states to remove the steering column cover and compare the part number on the spiral cable against the list of recalled part numbers. If the part number is a match, the part is to be replaced.

    It depends.

If you haven't received a letter, you can go to toyota.com, register an account with your VIN and they'll tell you if you have any outstanding recalls.

Pick a stealership to go to. Schedule an appointment with the service department for the specific recall that is being done.

Please also note that you can have OTHER shit done at the time sometimes as well. I had the throwout bearing on my '06 get warranty replaced, and while they were in there and had it all apart I got a new pressure plate put in for barely more than the price of the part.

Otherwise, yea, that's about it. If the recall is going to take a while they should provide you a loaner.

FYI, thoroughly document your truck before taking it in. Take pictures of everything....especially scratches/dings/etc. That way if someone mucks something up you can prove it and make them pay to fix it. This includes the interior and underneath, including under the hood if you can.

I haven't been plagued with recalls (2009 access cab 4x4) purchased new, dealer has been good to very good, took care of the rear suspension problem with on hassle. However!!, looking at my spare tire the other day I noticed a large amount of rust on the inside hubs, shock brackets, shackle's are all totally RUST! and I don't mean oxidation, all that metal will become oxidized
this is flaky Junk yard rust! my warranty (on rust) expires in a couple of months so I will be taking it in for them to look at, I should note that this truck is a "09" I have only put 25k on it, it sits in a very nice garage out of the elements, I would encourage everyone to take a look, this is something you might not notice. I think this is a great truck, but over the years Toyota has had rust problems, I think it is time they took a look at where/what ingredients are being used in their metal, jmop,

Japanese cars have always been rust buckets, so I don't know what all the fuss is about. They have improved a lot since the old days though. Your case is probably due to road salt, although mine show some minor rust starting.

Ive always had really good luck having my vehicles oil undercoated every year. A good shop will remove all the plugs in order to spray inside cab corners and rockers and so forth along with obviously hosing the whole undercarriage down with oil. I live in western pa so we get all the lake effect snow followed by mountains of road salt lol! Anyway this is my first tacoma and i just got it so it hasnt been oiled yet but it will be. Have any of you tried this? Are you doing it and they're still rusting quick anyway? Im kinda curious thanks.

I haven't used it on my Taco but we bought an old Aerostar years ago which had been treated by Rust-Check yearly since new, and after 5 years of heavy use and yearly coatings, had NO rust. This is in Manitoba Canada where winter road salt is heavy. Yearly Rust-Check treatments WORK. The van's tranny eventually expired and the van put out to pasture, rust-free!

Ya my last truck was a silverado I bought in Tennessee when I was living there. When I moved back home I didn't want it to turn into a rust bucket so oiled it every year. When I traded it in it still looked like a southern truck. Have been doin it to the girlfriends corolla too with good success.
