I stopped at the dealer on my way home from work today. The dealer told me they dont know alot yet about how this is going to work but should know something within 3 to 4 weeks. They did check my VIN on the there computer and mine is on the list for the clock spring recall. They also were able to tell me if your truck is on the list and you have already had your clock spring changed Toyota will pay back all that was spent.

    YES...

"For the Tacoma, Toyota will replace the steering wheel spiral cable assembly because friction may occur over time involving that part, which may result in the driver's side airbag being deactivated and not deploying in an accident."

I wonder if I can get my money back for the repair on my last Tacoma (2005) that I had, and it failed... it was the only failure in 102,000 miles. ?? LOL

Murphy's law... I replaced mine last week, and then this pops up.

So do you guys think they will reimburse if we didn't go through a dealership to have it replaced? I replaced mine myself...

Before I start asking a bunch of questions, is the the official recall thread for the "steering wheel spiral cable assembly" issue? If not, please post the proper thread.

since the tacoma has been known to have this clock spring fail shouldn't this recall be done along time ago? why now after 7 years?

"The repair will take approximately 30 minutes depending upon the dealer’s work schedule."

I don't understand how a work-schedule determines how long a job with take. From what I'm able to gather, the entire steering wheel needs to come off to get the steering wheel spiral cable assembly. You have that time, but the actual time to remove and install the SWSCA, the put the steering wheel back on. Can they really do that proper in 30-minutes?

they say that so when someone shows up at 3pm for this and they have a line out the door, they are not expecting it to be finished at 3:30pm.

    here we go again!

Toyota is recalling all 2005-2009 Tacoma pickups which could effect as many as 495,000 vehicles. The recall will replace a faulty steering-wheel spiral assembly. Due to a possible design flaw, friction could develop between spiral cable and the retainer in the steering-wheel assembly. This could lead to a loss of connectivity with the driver's airbag and cause the airbag not to deploy in a crash.

Toyota will begin notifying owners in early April. As with the first recall, dealers will also be able to replace the affected part for free in around 30 minutes.

Owners interested in receiving more information about both recalls can go to http://www.toyota.com/recall or call Toyota's Customer Experience Center at 800-331-4331
