Awesome I have an 06 SR5 too, my SRS light is on, I emailed Toyota Canada with my VIN and they said the Campaign is only in the states so far and they have yet to recall Canadian trucks but they are going to and send all owners with affected trucks letters in the mail.

Damn, I just replaced mine with an 90 dollar made in China ebay special......Toyota will probably use the same one as well. LOL

My dealer tells me that starting next month Toyota plans to start mailing out letters in a staggered way starting with the oldest trucks working to the newest. Probably best that everyone ensures that Toyota Canada had your current addresses on file.

Finally I get to make something on the truck right without having to pay for it or do it my damn self.

I wonder how long this will take..... A few hours or 8+ hours?

In other words - do we sit in the waiting room for a few hours, or are we expected to drop the truck off and find our own transportation to/from the dealership until its done the next day? I doubt they'll offer a loaner....

When I had my assembly installed about 6 months ago actual installation was 29 minutes. I spent 3 hours 31 minutes waiting for them to start working on the car.

My dealer punched my VIN in and said the same thing. Thus far, they are only targeting the Tacoma trucks with without steering wheel controls as the 9 wire assembly is the culprit..

Does anyone here have a TRD with steering wheel stereo controls AND the airbag light stuck on? Mine hasn't ever stayed on at all but I'd like to know if it WILL come on later. Thanks!

Good question. It's so easy to change I'm just gonna ask for a to-go order and see what the stealer says.

Here's the response I recaived from TOYOTA CANADA.... the other day...

I guess it's a "wait and see" kinda thing.....

    Over...

    Thank you for your email.

On March 7, 2012, Toyota filed a Notice of Defect with Transport Canada of our intent to conduct a voluntary Safety Recall on 2005 to certain 2009 Model Year Tacoma Vehicles.

In the affected Tacoma models, certain steering wheel vibration may cause friction between the Flexible Flat cable (FFC) and the retainer in the spiral cable assembly in the steering wheel. In FFCs with seven channel circuits, friction over time may result in damage to certain circuits on the flat cable that provide connectivity (or electrical signal) to the drivers airbag module. If connectivity (or the signal) is lost, the airbag warning lamp will illuminate. In addition, the drivers airbag may become deactivated, causing it to not deploy in the event of a crash. This could increase the risk of injury to the driver.

The airbag warning light is designed to come on when the engine switch is turned to the ON position during the ignition cycle check function. Under normal circumstances, it goes off after about 6 seconds. This means the system is operating as designed. If the airbag warning light illuminates or remains illuminated after this period, please contact your local Toyota dealer for diagnosis and appropriate repair.

Currently, Toyota is procuring the campaign replacement parts. In the interim and in the near future, owners of affected vehicles will be notified by first class mail. The interim owner notification will advise owners that:

    1) This recall affects their vehicle;
    2) When campaign replacement parts are available, customers should make an appointment at any Toyota dealership to have the Spiral Cable Assembly replaced on their vehicle.
    3) What to do if they experience this condition in the interim. Once the replacement parts becomes available, customers will be notified again and asked to make an appointment with any Toyota dealership to have the campaign remedy performed on their vehicle. This repair will be performed at no charge to customers.

Toyota is working on the remedy as quickly as possible and will be mailing owner letters consistent with parts availability and repair capacity.

If this condition occurs before sufficient quantities of replacement parts are available, the owner should contact an authorized Toyota dealership for diagnosis and an appropriate repair as soon as possible. If the problem is related to this specific condition, the repair will be performed at no charge.

If you have further questions, please contact any Toyota dealer who will be pleased to answer any questions you may have concerning this recall, including whether it applies to your specific vehicle.

    Thank you again for writing.

    Sincerely,

    John Ross
    Customer Interaction Centre
    Toyota Canada Inc.

I have a TRD and the dealer told me there was a recall on mine for the spiral cable. Sweet on getting a refund since I already paid them to do it!

Have anyone had any exposure to recall refunds? Do manufacturers send you a check? Does a dealer give you cash back? Do you get a credit at a toyota dealership? Do they give you a refund and % state tax?

No, only the air bag light came on. This was on my 2005 DC (the only failure in 102,000 miles, unless you add the soft rear springs and ABS brake issues... both of those are not an issue with my 2010).
