When does the app update on the Tacoma? Upon startup? No update since 7/1, I guess maybe that means it's sitting on a ship?

    Your post is confusing.

Are you trying to track an incoming unit, or are you speaking of the app for a truck you have in hand?

It's my truck, waiting for it to arrive. Last update was on July 1. Does the app update from thr truck being turned on? Apparently it does. Why would I get updates and now none.
I'll ask a different way. Does your toyota app update daily, even if you don't drive the truck? Or will it say last updated on a prior date.

I can't imagine the tracking of the truck from factory to dealer having a thing to do with the Toyota app that's part of the truck.

I'd guess, and that's all it is, a guess, that the progress of the truck is updated when a bar code of of some type is scanned as it arrives or leaves a location of significance. Just like a USPS or Amazon package.

But just like those things, it may not work every step of the way either.

I'm assuming you're trying to track an allocated truck you have a deposit on and have the VIN, so you set up the Toyota app for it. To answer your question, my app updates every time I finish a trip. It also has a button that allows you to query the truck and update manually. It needs to have a clear view of the sky for the GPS signal, so if your truck is in the cargo hold of a ship or on a truck carrier underneath another vehicle it won't update.

I actually thought the truck had to be transferred to you for Toyota to allow the VIN to be set up on the owner site or the app, but it seems I may be wrong.

No. Anyone can set it up initially, you only get to see miles on the odometer and tire pressure. When officially the owner, all the other featured will work.

I used it as a gauge for status on my truck. Built on 5/19. No app update until 6/29, with 2 miles. Then 7/1 with four miles. Silent since. I'm assuming it was loaded on 7/1, or waiting to be loaded since 7/1. Either way, I think it's safe to say hasn't moved since July 1st.

sounds about right, you could see it in as little as 2 weeks or as much as 2 months. The dealer doesn't know, Toyota doesn't know,, it's all guesses and speculation.

We go through this waiting on the ATF's notorious ridiculously long and variable timeframe process of applying. New folks who just applied for their first tax stamp are simply told to stop checking (you are only slowing the process down and irking people), forget about it, and be surprised one day.
