my tacoma has rust damage to the frame. i don't want a new truck, they are giving me 8,500 for my 1998 single cab 2.7 engine 4x4 that has a newer engine, header, centerforce clutch, k&n filter charger etc.so should i get a pre tacoma model with a v-6, how strong is that engine, frame, 5 speed etc. i want to spend 6,000 on the truck, and spend the rest on building it. the 2.7 engine in the tacoma was OK with the header etc.i have had trucks with the 20r, 22r, and 22re and have never had a older v6 that makes also 150 horse the same as the 2.7. i really don't want to go back to the smaller 4 cylinders, what would you do in my position. thanks

After having the 2.7 and now the v6 i would never go back to the 2.7. Dont get me wrong its one of toyotas best motor but the v6 pulls the truck much smoother.

    stock, for now
i'd personally never own another 4cyl after owning my 4banger wrangler. The v6 motors are very smooth, and relatively easy to maintain with normal stuff like plugs/wires and such. If I cant afford a brand new truck in the next few years, id be definatly looking into the 01-04 trucks. They seem like there pretty solid except for the bucket seats.

The 3.4 V6 in my 2000 is plenty quick enough & has decent power band/torque, they did have a 3.0 that was pretty weak by some accounts,I've only had 4cyl & this 3.4 & seems like a pretty good motor...

    I had a 99 4cyl before. I now have a 01 v6. Overall I like my 01 v6 more...but i do miss the gas mileage in the 4cyl.

Mostly stock for now, I have added a cb radio, various cheap mods and I plan on adding aftermarket wheels and other items in the future.
    I agree!
