    I am.

Dear Jaysus. 6Q of Mobil 1 5w-30 at Wally World is ~$30. Toyota Oil Filters are about $4 at my local Dealer, you can get 'em shipped online in bulk for the same price.

$50 I could see if you like fancy schmancy oil, but $83?

    gasket : $0.98
    Filter : $4.05

    Parts : $28.98

This is true.. I'll take a regular customer pay oil change/ tire rotation that pays 8/10ths of an hour over a maintenance care that pays 6/10ths of an hour..:cookiemonster:

    My 2010 had Toyocare...2 years oil changes...bla...bla...bla...

truck never saw the dealership for service

My 2012 has Toyoguard Elite  ...3 years oil changes...bla...bla...bla...

truck will never see the dealership (unless there is a warranty issue)

the Toyocare/Toyoguard is BS. It is a rip off. All it is really, is a way for Toyota to extract money from the new vehicle buyer...and in return pay it back to their dealership service departments...to help them stay profitable.

    total BS

oh, btw...I traded my 2010 with almost 30K miles...it had NEVER seen the delership...but was on the used car lot the next day "Toyota Certified"

Don't feel bad op. you lucked out. My buddy just lost engine on his Lexus. Turn out last Lexus oil change was not that great. He was going on 1200 mile road trip. Midway trip baaam. his Lexus is in dealership and they gave him a loaner to continue the trip. Most likely he will get new engine.

None yet, but sure to come!
I think I win the stealership maint horror stories. I have had the oil bottle left under the filter on my 4 Runner, drove 4000 miles across the country before I noticed it. Not a real big deal. Thats not the winner.

But, this latest one takes the cake!! Took the truck in for it's first 5000 mile service. Asked them NOT to change the oil because I had already done a Bosch filter and Mobil 1 myself. Also asked them NOT to wash it because I had just polished and waxed it. They didn't mess with the oil, but they did strip my wax off with their stupid automatic wash. Thats not the winner either.

So I was having some weird brake issue. Brake peddle pulsing while sitting stopped at a red light. Brakes locking up under normal braking. Clearly an ABS issue right? So I dropped it off for service today and got a call a few minutes ago to tell me that SOMEONE put power steering fluid in the brake reservoir. The truck has 7000 miles on it, and the only person that has been under that hood is me and whoever the tech was that did the 5000 mile service. And I have no brake or power steering fluid in my garage, so that pretty much narrows it down.

The result.... they have proposed replacing the entire braking system, from Master Cylinder to Calipers, including all the lines. Thats a pretty costly 30 second mistake. Thats the Winner!!

How bout a picture of your mod to drain that dreaded filter without slopping oil all over the engine . I picked up my truck used and getting ready to do my first oil change on this critter at home .
One of you guys must have a pic of some fancy home made device to catch the oil I hope ? Thanks in advance as I am sure this has been discussed before .

One of our old time techs did that very same thing..when he thought he was topping off the power steering he was really adding power steering fluid to the master cylinder . Luckily for him that mistake was made on one of our parts delivery trucks...

OP, I want to know how the hell you think an oil change and full tire rotation only takes 20 minutes. I've worked in dealerships as a teen, even the most experienced guys could only do it in 40-45 min. Most at a steady pace took an hour at least.

I can't speak for everyone here that has the dealer do it, but once my "free" Toyotacare services dry up, I'll be doing my own maintenence... as I have for 30+ years to my own vehicles.

Yeah, I know I should do it there.

Did they try to pin the screw-up on you??
