i have a 2015 tacoma and I just hit 20k. I have been getting free oil changes & basic maint. until 25k with my toyota care. So I received an email stating that toyota care is about to be up BUT I can spend $179 and receive
    Up to 4 additional services
2 years of 24 hr roadside
    Service reminders

    The services are
    Oil and filter replace
    Rotate tires
    Multi-point vehicle inspection
Inspect and adjust all fluid levels

So my question is how much are the parts (filter and oil) if I was to do the changes myself? Like I had mentioned, I haven't had to do anything. (Took advantage of original offer). I know that this is how the dealer makes their money but I have to say that I have a really good dealership. I know that most would say they prefer to do their own so they know it's done their way (the right way), but I was thinking for the inspection rotate and oil MAYBE it's worth it. Thoughts?

A vague estimate is about $30 worth of oil at each change for the V6, the filter is about $5 and replacing the drain plug gasket is about $1 each.

To each their own and I'm not much of a mechanic, but changing the oil on the Tacoma is a pretty easy task. I also get my tires rotated at Costco for free so I don't have to take that into consideration when doing my own maintenance.

Honesty, it's up to you. Less than $50 a pop for oil changes ins't that bad, particularly if you don't have the time, inclination, space, tools or know-how to do it yourself. The dealer isn't raping you at that price. The roadside assistance and other stuff is a bonus. Keep in mind that their end game is is to get you back in there so they can upsell you on a big 30K mile service , 45K mile service, 60K mile service, etc. And brakes, and throttle body cleanings, and tranny flushes, and all sorts of other questionable things that they make money on.

U can DYI with synthetic and filter for about $30 - U don't say but U are probably getting regular oil at the dealer for $45 - not much diff in $$ but synthetic is the way to go if U R keeping the truck.

    .
I wont let anyone maintenance my truck but myself. For personal reason. I have the toyota car right now but i dont use it. They can keep it. I let them do the first 2 and was not impressed. An went right back behind them and had to check everything that was touched. But if you dont like doing it go for it. Not alot of difference in price. Cheaper if you do it yourself though as well.

I have the Toyota Care too and still do my own maintenance instead of letting them mess with it.
