most dealers that i talk to say they cant certify a used toyota that has any kind of lift put on it...then for about every 5 that say they cant there is one dealer that says that if its just a spacer lift they can still certify it,

#anyone know any thing about what can and cant be certified re: lifts ?

The main marketing I've seen for certified vehicles is that it's barely used, or like new. Any aftermarket mods are going to diminish that selling point.

It is really just a profit equation though, when it comes down to it. As in, is the extra money they get for it being "certified" enough to offset the risk of paying for any warranty repairs that may have to make on the vehicle. A stock vehicle is easy to assess - you know the failure rates, and the est. repair costs so you can get a pretty good idea. Aftermarket parts would be hard to assess - you don't have info on the parts themselves, and you don't know if they were installed correctly. It's easier for the dealer to just say no.

If anything, they should certify the ones with coil overs and new leafs, not spacers.

I work in the used car department for a ford dealer. Yes they can certify a truck with just spacers, how ever if it has a real lift kit the answer is no they cannot

Bought my 05 off my wife's cousin a few months ago. They bought it as a certified toyota and it has SAWS up front and spacer lift in back. It was 2 0r 3 years old and had about 35,000 mi. It had been bought new from that dealer originally and had been always maintained there. Warranty still good till next year for me.

I purchased mine Toyota certified with a spacer lift on 285/70/r17s. Even have a printed copy of the add that says Toyota certified, and in the description it says "Classy Lift". I suspect I will get some headache from a shop if I need warranty work, but I am prepared.

In this situation I would walk right past anyone in sales and go to the service department and ask for the manager to discuss all the conditions of "non stock" suspension. Get it in writing, keep it in the glovebox.
