There are car ports located all over the country. The latest car we ordered was delivered via boat to Port Hueneme near socal, where then the port installed options are installed. Think of it has a place holder from the initial shipment. From the port, the cars get split up in the semi-rigs where they are allocated to dealers.

So I have been looking for a cement TRD Pro and found one but unfortunately it has these stupid flares on it and was wondering how hard and how much it might cost to put the original black flares on the truck?

Those fenders flares look like $hit unless they're on a huge truck.

I think the factory flares look too "mallish". Too skinny, not aggressive enough. Look like they came off a station wagon. 2nd Gen look like pancakes even though they are much bigger than 3rd gen. I like bushwackers, look tough and rugged.
I think they look pretty good especially painted to match the truck.

I know it's an old thread, but those flares ruined the look of that truck. When puchasing, I specifically avoided the dealership in my area that is known to add on stuff like this. They'll hook up alarms, flashing 3rd brake lights etc. Usually a $3-5 part that's marked up to $300-700. If you say you don't want it, they'll go out and unhook. Last thing I want is someone going through my truck.

When Toyota first arrived in the US, they were considered cheap junk cars. They had no distribution network so they sold distribution regions. With Toyota following a different business model than US manufacturers they shipped cars stripped down an the regions could add port installed options as a way of increasing revenue and margin. Things like bumpers, wheels, radios, AC, etc. could all be added and considered OE parts that would be covered under the vehicle warranty. In those days it wasn't a big deal because cars rarely left their regions. Toyota slowly began buying back these franchises and today only two exist. Southeast and Gulf States. Gulf States conforms to the Toyota way for the most part and doesn't typically follow the old port options, and this is also helped with Toyota relocating their HQ to TX.

Southeast Toyota on the other hand has an almost adversarial relationship with Toyota. Toyota wants corporate ownership and J.M. refuses to sell. They also refuse to change the business model and even today you will find certain models and equipment that you won't find anywhere else in the US. Enkie wheels, different raidos, etc. can be found in the SE as port installed options. Obviously port installed is a misnomer now because there was a day that when all Toyotas arrived by ship and these things were actually added at the ports. Today they have facilities that they ship cars to and these items are added, but still called the same.

These options differ from dealer options. Those options are added by the dealer and only warrantied by the dealer.

If you really want to infuriate a dealer in outside the SE, take a X-runner in for warranty work on something like the radio. You will undoubtedly spend a lot of time on the phone with Toyota and having to special order parts.

Point of interest is that the owner of the Jacksonville Jaguars became a billionaire selling port installed bumpers.

Is it as easy as popping these flares off and popping the new ones on? I don’t mind spending the $500 if it would make it look completely stock again with no sign of the aftermarket flares ever being on there.

The aftermarket flares are 3M taped long top edge and bolted/screwed at wheel opening (should be in factory bolt holes). Factory flares 3M taped and push clips top edge (Factory holes in fenders) and bolted/screwed. Yes, very straight forward change out. Only thing I can see that maybe a concern would be aftermarket flares are bigger and if been on there a while. May and I say may have scratched fenders, if not installed right.

they are not Toyota brand flares they are EGR USA Flares, Totally agree, about they don't fit the lines of the truck at all. the current 16-19 flares are INMHO the best looking option you can put on these trucks for a daily driver

Yah, just imagine the idiots that put those awful mods on their trucks. Must be a complete embarrassment to be seen with me.
