If it's not directly in my eyeline, I try to avoid it. I'll glance at the speedo and tach, but I'm normally looking out for the makeup-applying burger-gnoshing texters who are busy trying to find their next accident.

It ain't gonna be me if I can avoid it. They can't hit me if I'm not there. So if my GPS can route me around heavy traffic without me having to take my attention away from the road, it's a winner.

I did a little fishing around out of curiosity. Telenav scout is powered by OpenStreet Maps data. I've been using an app for off-line on my phone called maps.me - this helps me keep my data costs under control when out of the country. In any case some of the Scout and Maps.me technology is open source. That fits in if Toyota is in fact working with the Ford AppSync technology as has been reported in a number of trade rags (example: http://www.computerworld.com/articl...a-eyes-fords-latest-smartphone-interface.html)

I had a look at AppSync and the SmartDeviceLink protocol stack - that would be a welcome change if they in fact implement it. I am skeptical we'll see it on this Taco but Toyota didn't rebuff Apple Play and Android Auto and then go get in bed with Ford for no reason.

Because phones lose reception? Good luck finding you way in a middle of the desert with Apple Maps or Google Maps.

I was in Big Sur last month. As soon as we hit the coast our AT&T and Verizon phones were only good to play music and take pictures.

Why does anyone want a GPS built into their car these days? Paper maps don't run out of batteries and are portable.

Waze is retarded. People report all kinds of useless shit just to get points. They report every moving police car even if it just minding its own business and just driving on a highway, so you get 50 reports of cops in a 5 mile stretch... And not a single cop car around. Now it reports potholes. Are you fucking kidding me?? Who gives a shit? A little crack in a road may seem like a crater to your BMW, but I don't even notice that shit in my truck. And the worst of all, it now pops up ads blocking your screen! Wat??? Ads while I am looking at the damn thing and trying to navigate my way somewhere. Interface is childish, routes calculated wrong all the time and you spend more time fighting this thing that actually using it to navigate. Oh, and "GPS NOT AVAILABLE" message is awesome too, while Apple Maps and Google Maps work just fine.

"Social" and "Navigation" should never be used together in any way, shape or form while you are driving.

I don't have any of these problems.
    I don't drive a bmw.

My calculated routes and ETA are usually spot on.

I was referring to people who report potholes.

I live in San Diego and drive to LA all the time, so pretty urban areas where GPS should be flawless. In the middle of I-405 Waze just tells me that it can't calculate a route and becomes completely useless for the next 20 miles... or sends me on some weird route that's nowhere near where I am going. "Oh, you are on 405 North and driving to downtown LA? Let me send you to 110 South, instead of 110 North"

I do like to use Waze on long drives because it keeps me alert with constant nagging about non-existent shit on the road, but I just wish I could turn off those never ending pop ups. I am not interested. Just show me the goddamn road.

I got your back. The last time I drove on the 405 all I wanted to do was kill people, then myself. I don't know how y'all can stand it. I had better commutes in Sarajevo, Riyadh, and Iraq!

I only use Google maps for navigation. I run waze when I drive so Google gets the speed information. Yes, Google owns waze and uses all of Wazes data to update traffic and fastest routes for Google maps. Waze is terrible for directions.

There was or is a rumor going around that was gives better routes to people with more points. Only idiots think that is true.

I have my crown in Waze and still run it when i drive. I report almost nothing. 80 mile round trips to work each day got me a crown in under a year

Neither and both. There was no research done by the writers of the article regarding the functionality and features that the Telenav Scout is going to bring to Toyota, and there was no comparison of those features to Apple and Android.

Another blogger case of disengage brain, jerk knee.

If, after extensive testing and use, it comes back that the Scout is shite, then so be it. But without having seen it, tested it, or even installed the free fucking app and looked at it, the bloggers may suck it.

ok. So am I the first. Bought a 2016 double cab long bed sr5 4x4. installed Scout app, and it doesnt work. put in destination, gives me the first direction, and then freezes. drive a few miles, stop navigation, restart, gives me a new direction, and then freezes. no matter what I do, always the same outcome. back to having my garmin on the windsheild. Any else having problems?20151009_121154.jpg
