Wondering if anyone had the Toyota dashcam forced on them by the dealer. My truck came with one and it literally never connects to my phone. I will fuck with it this weekend but curious if anyone else has had issues.

Yeah. I’m ok with it. Just curious if anyone has connectivity issues as well.

    Far to much money spent.
I had the same problem and with the phone wanting to connect to the truck car play i had to disable the phone from the truck head unit and connected to only dash camera, problem solved for me at least, you def cannot connect both at same time

I installed my trusty Garmin Mini2 camera, and it, too, had connectivity issues. If I want to mess with the Garmin app, I turn off Carplay in my phone and no longer have the issue. I suspect that's your problem.

If wireless CarPlay is like Android Auto, your phone will broadcast a Wifi signal that connects you to the Head unit. I would think the Garmin and Toyota cameras also connect via a Wifi connection not bluetooth. This means no simultaneous connections like you can have via bluetooth.

The Garmin uses Bluetooth. But Carplay screws it up.

Mine connects through my Bluetooth. It's listed in Settings on my iPhone.

TR, just installed mine. I had no problems connecting. There is a popup that recommends disconnecting bluetooth and wifi connections, but I didn't have to do that. Four year old Oneplus 8 Pro phone. Might be my phone. Android auto works flawlessly as does wireless charging with it too. Live view with the dash cam actually works. Kinda pleased as I actually paid for it after delivery, LOL. Just wanted sumptin' simple, not running wiring, and not chasing warranty after years messing with others.

Most devices like this will establish a bluetooth connection and then a separate wifi connection after they connect. Wifi allows for more data to be passed with less latency. That is why wireless AA and CarPlay use your phone to create a wifi signal (like a hotspot) that the head unit will then connect to. Again, I don't have an Iphone or Garmin, I am just going off what I have read and seen from other devices.

By chance when you connect does this symbol show on your phone?

    No, I get this:

TR, I got it to replicate connection issues. I can replicate reliable connection several times doing this:

Turn off bluetooth on your phone. With vehicle ON, go to the head unit display. Disconnect bluetooth for your phone in vehicle settings. Press and hold the wifi button on the dashcam for two seconds. Wifi button will flash blue and chirp. On your phone open up the Toyota camera to set up wifi. You should be able to connect.

Disabling bluetooth at both ends seems to work reliably for me.

I was asking as a quick search showed that the one plus 8 does have a dual WiFi antenna where you can connect to multiple Wi-Fi signals. I figured that's what would make Android Auto and the dash work at the same time.
