I went to trade my truck for a 2004 Tacoma DC prerunner trd w/3.4 supercharger that had 111,000 miles. They talked it over for about 30 minutes of us just sitting there and he came back and said they would only give me 6000 for my 01 Tacoma DC prerunner with 125,000(2.7L) and i would finance 15900. I said yeah right and left. Is it just me or is that crazy. the book on mine is almost 11,000. i know i wont get that but damn 6000. btw i owe about 6700 on mine. i know they can give me more than that for mine. Didnt they try to rip me off?

It sucks- but the blower might screw you on a trade in. Even tho it's a Toyota built part, prolly installed by them too, it's not what they look for to resell.

It sounds like they might have tried to stick it you you with the black book anyways...Try to sell it on your own before you take the hit on a trade in...every time.

Well if they are going to pay off your truck and give you $6,000 then you would really be getting $12,700. $15,900 seems a little steep for me seeing as I got my 07 w/17,000 for $18,000. I would talk to them again and clear things up.

    Check it out on Edmunds:
    http://www.edmunds.com/tmv/used/2001/toyota/tacoma/index.html

$6000 is a little low, but not crazy low (I am looking at dealer trade in value).
Edmunds shows it around $6500. Edmunds is a cold slap of reality when it comes to car pricing - I think they are more accurate than the books. Also, the "book value" that you are seeing is a retail price. Car dealers are in business to make money, so that is why there is a difference.

Why not sell your truck to a private party, then work a deal on the truck you want to buy?

I think they want way too much for the '04, your 6000 trade plus financing 15900 makes 21,900, right? Get them to give you a price on the '04 without a trade, and see where you can get with that.

no after trade in i will finance 15900 and they said if i wasnt trading anything in i would be financing around 13,500 and they just lowered the price to 13,900 so that is not a good deal.

remember they dont go by kbb, they use how much its worth at auction, better off selling it on the street.

I wouldn't do that deal. Look on line for a better deal and sell on craigslist or something.

Dealers only give you HALF of what your truck is worth if they decide they are going to resell it themselves, so they can make a big profit on it-that is why trading in sucks. Yes they actually make money off you TWICE! Believe it or not, that dealer actually was being straight with you, because a lot of them will offer you more for your trade in but then tack on more to the new truck! You really are better off selling it yourself as Toyotas are such an easy sell. EVERYBODY knows the quality.

the reason i liked that truck so much is because of the v6, supercharger, trd and cruise control which mine doesnt have any of that.

Dealers will always screw you on the trade in and try to act like they're doing you a favor. Lucky for you its easy to sell a Taco, everybody wants them. Definitely put it up on Craigslist, you'll get the most money for your truck selling it to another individual.
