As you know. The 3rd gens aren't easy to come by. I put in a preorder for exactly what I wanted months ago. I did so because I prefer the previous service I've received from this dealer over the dealer closer to me. I don't mind driving out there if it's to buy the vehicle or to get something I need. I'll be damned if it's on me that they ordered the wrong thing. Im not sure if you're realizing that this screw up would have cost me 3 extra round trips. And miles on my new vehicle, plus the taking off work etc. I don't think it's fair to say that, but maybe I'm Tony Alessi Crazy. A little humor for anyone who knows who that is.

    1) I almost thought your post was going to turn into a Penthouse Forum...
    2) I think you were pretty reasonable in your requests, especially given that it was their boner (see what I did there)

    Hahah!

Thanks. I appreciate it. The general consensus... Not the boner

Since when do you get a loaner vehicle to get rims and a lift?

Oh I'm paying for it with the plan I got. Rental anytime my truck is in the shop regardless. It costs me about 12 bucks a month and I'm sure it's making my money back now. Technically it's not officially in the shop at this point, but you get my drift

They don't sell those plans because it makes the customer money.

I also don't understand why a lift and wheels require that you leave the truck there long term. That means and additional two trips for you rather than just wait a couple hours for the vehicle. So you can't really complain about additional driving because you sign yourself up for that.

It shouldn't take them so long to do a life and put new wheels on that you need a rental.

I'm very aware of that, but it looks like I'm beating the system in this instance.

Again, I don't think you're understanding the situation. They can't seem to get the correct parts for 8 days. It's an all day job according to them. If I could go up and wait a few hours I'd be fine with that. They are the ones that suggested giving me a rental in the first place. I can't help how long they think it's gonna take.

It's always funny to me when one person is of an opposing opinion, because I really truly can't see that side of it. They screwed up. Why should I pay for it? It's that simple.

Oh and for the record. THEY scheduled it. If I could do it on a weekend there would be no issues. Apparently they only have one tech good enough to handle the job....

No I agree, they messed up and ordered the wrong parts.

BUT you are having a dealer do it. So you are kind of making your own bed.
#1 The dealer is telling you it is an all day job because they want to take their sweet time doing it. Do you really think a lift, alignment, and new wheels really take that long? Of course not. 3 hours at the most. You'll have at least two people working on it. OR they are outsourcing it to another shop and not actually doing it there. Most dealers won't do lifts.
#2 Dealers usually care a lot less about their customers than other shops.
#3 Dealers do not specialize in lifts and wheels and alignments like that. Hence why the wrong parts for your truck were probably ordered.

Just my personal opinion, you should be taking your truck to someplace that does lifts for a living like a 4 wheel parts or an off-road shop. I can almost promise you they will be cheaper on parts and labor, AND do a much better job than anyone else. They also can probably do the job while you wait.
You won't have to worry about wrong parts and them not knowing what the heck they are doing.

So, while I do feel you are valid in your feelings about your lack of care, there is also the side of the coin where if you wanted good service, you wouldn't be going to a dealer. Also wouldn't be shocked if you have problems with that lift. I wouldn't trust a dealer to know what they are doing. Wouldn't be shocked if you have alignment problems after and have to haul it all the way back up in a couple of days because they got cheap on putting in new cams.

Take it to a good shop and this will go so easy you'll kick yourself for wasting time on the dealer.

    I'm on your side man.

Now that I can agree with. My real dilemma was that I'm credit rich but not cash rich. I may have spoiled myself with all of the accessories because I've never had a lifted truck. This is only my second new vehicle. The first was bought from this same dealer. I do have to give them credit. The sales people are far more knowledgable and friendly than those in the motorcycle industry where I come from.

All in all, I will have to chock this up to hindsight being 20/20. I know better now and hopefully they do too enough to save this from happening to the next guy. You may be right on the shotty job and I'm pretty worried about it. At this point I have to give them the benefit of the doubt since I've already paid for it.

I did ask them to give me the parts I paid for and give me an invoice showing what falls under service and parts. Then, give me the service portion back and I'll take it elsewhere. I got a firm no way on that. They want that $$$

I'm honestly with you on that last part, but this place is a wealth of info. I am pretty pumped on finding it. Here you go... Ugly rims and all

I hope you do get good service and everything turns out alright. Just drive that truck around the area a bit when you pick it up to make sure the alignment is right on with it. What's perfect is if you have round round abouts where you are. Great test.

Thanks! I appreciate it. Yeah there's a pretty good loop around the dealership actually, so that should be perfect.

You handled it about like I would have. I had a leaky rear shock Baja and even told the service writer to make sure he ordered the right part. Part comes in and I take the truck in. After 2 hours waiting the service writer tells me sorry they took it all apart and found out they had the wrong part. I was pissed because they should have checked the part before making me wait 2 hours. Plus I had an appt. for 7:15 and they did not even start until 8. Service writer said that was normal but manger said not that they start at 7. Bottom line is they wasted my time and paid the price on the survey.

Damn. That's the kind of stuff that irritates me. I'd be much less mad if they just let me know what was going on up front. Before I drove half way there again. I shouldn't be the one that ha to have the due diligence to call up and make sure it's on track. Same as you. They have sent me the review twice now. I'm gonna fill them both out if it lets me.
