I would love to purchase one but it’s not an option (automatic only). Rumors are simplicity for the assembly lines, limited amount of manual transmissions being manufactured, current manual tranny can’t handle the extra weight of a long bed, etc.

Yup, I would have preferred a manual on my 2018. Weird that it’s not an option....
Still not available on the 2019-20 long beds?

You can get the Access cab Sport that comes with a long bed, that's what my dad went with, but it's all he needs now. Unfortunately, that's the only LB MT option, at least for the US, for a reason that will be unknown until the end of time.

    It's not an engineering question, it's a sales/marketing question.

And you will notice almost no one from corporate Toyota comments on the forum. There are many good reasons for that including not stirring up a shit storm.

Demand is the answer. If enough wanted it they would build it. Very few want a manual. Even fewer want your ideal configuration.

Just scour the junkyards and buy the parts to swap a manual into your truck. Then sell your pristine auto trans to someone that thinks they can tow like a full size truck and blow it up.

I bet in the future when these trucks are more beaterish, manual swapped longbeds will become a thing.

I always wanted a 1st gen double cab manual, but it wasnt made. I seen a swapped one and you would think its factory

I went through the same thing with my 2015, I curse the short bed every time we try to sleep in the bed under the topper!!

I wanted the 4 door for the extra space, and the rare occurance of hauling extra riders, and wanted a LB too, but the MT was at the top of the list of "Must Haves".

I just traded in my 05 Access Cab for a new double cab. Wanted the manual with long bed but no dice. Got a DCSB TRD Sport with manual. Really enjoying it so far, but the short bed does make a diffference for someone like myself that does a fair amount of construction for a DIYer.

I remember way back when a few guys on TTORA were doing a manual swaps on a 1st Gen DC's, turned out awesome.

Nothing is impossible, but messing around with all the electronics, swapping ECU's, etc. makes it a whole different kettle of fish compared to a 1st gen transmission swap.

Might be easier to start out with a SB manual and put a LB frame and bed under it.

Either way, it's just time and $$$$.

There was a guy on there that swapped a pre-runner to 4WD. One of many build threads that got me to switch from 4Runners to Tacoma’s.

Manual transmission was first on the must have list, then double cab, would have ordered in LB if it was an option. I don’t think it’s a demand issue, in fact I bet they would sell more MTLBs than MTSB if it was an option.

I know I would have gotten one if it was available. Since it wasn’t I’m stuck with the OR DCLB AT

Because there aren't enough buyers for that option.

A little of this and a little of that.
I would buy a DCLB with manual transmission if it was available. I’ve got a DCSB manual now. The manual transmission is preferable to me.

Exactly. Of course they can make a double cab long box manual, but the costs to profits aren't enough to satisfy a very niche market.
