You forgot to include the other safety features that are included in 2009+ models. We have TRAC for detecting wheel spin and VSC for lateral vehicle slides. Hey, at least they gave us a button to turn off TRAC and VSC!

Oh and before anyone rips on VSC, the NHTSA credits VSC second only to safety belts in saving lives on our highways.

Seriously, with the acceleration problem you push that clutch in and there ya go...problem solved: get everybody on manual transmissions and bring safe driving back. no need for engine kill switches when you can use a pedal to disengage the transmission from the engine.

I use the brakes and acellerator at the same time all the time. No thanks, if mine ever races away I will do what all the others "should" have done, turn the engine off and pull over.

In what circumstance do you use your brakes and accelerator so frequently?

Dallas, Texas traffic for one instance. One moment you are doing 80 mph and the next it comes to zero. On the way to zero you sometimes find yourself dodging other drivers who have lost control or those that are unaware of what is going on around them. To keep the potential for extreme acelleration from a moment of braking, both are used.

I can think of other times when it could be useful for the abilty to have both and they not mess with each other. Others have mentioned hill climbs and precarious situations where power needs to be kept wrapped up but the brakes need to hold as well.

how about instead of brake override and just upgrading our braking system??

i have a feeling they were trying to knock out two birds with one stone on this one, the notorious mushy/delayed/insensitive brakes whatever you want to call it.

The question in my mind is whether some of these unintended acceleration problems are themselves a software issue, or some interaction between software and sensors in the drive-by-wire system. If that were the case, then accelerator position might not be the problem, and a system that reduces power when the accelerator is applied at the same time as the brakes might not help (that is, if the engine goes to full throttle uncommanded by the pedal).

I gotta wonder if there isn't something about this system that the engineers don't understand. Most if not all of our trucks do the little surge forward while at idle after stopping, which seems to be a drive by wire anomaly. Why can't they fix that?

I spend a lot of time driving down steep roadways between the local forest service roads and the highway into my little town (which is 19% grade, single lane, gravel, with a cliff on one side (Bella Coola, BC, Canada). Would this be like a "jake brake" if so I think it would be great for me. I'm always in 2nd gear coming down those hills but even then the RPM's get up to 4500 and I need to brake. At those grades and distances you can wear out brakes very quickly. I am guessing this is like a manual hill descent assist.

Anybody have any additional TECHNICAL information on exactly how this will work? Or any date as to which such details will be available? Anyone had this done?

For example I heard somewhere that the throttle override would only apply for speeds over 30mph. If that's the case, then this wouldn't mess with that occassional need to simultaneously work both pedals offroading. But again technical details seem lacking, and I for one would like to know before I go in for the leafspring TSB + driveshaft (my 2010 is one of the 8000 - yay me). Would just like to get it all done at once.

Never ( say never ) stuck , the brake override is intended to stop the truck in the event that there is an un intended and unstoppable acceleration , basically if the computer senses throttle and brake at the same time the brake input gets priority , allowing you to stop the rig even if it is trying to race you into the Strait of Georgia .

No recalls or modifications for me, thank you. I like my truck just the way it is. I actually want a BIGGER gas pedal. When I stomp the snot out of it, I want to make sure I don't miss.

I know Toyota is recalling the4x4 models for drive shaft issues. I have a 4x2 and have had a clunking sound when stopping and starting for several months. Has anyone else experienced this and does anyone know if it is part of the recall?
    Thanks.
