I'm thinking of getting the Toyota Extra Care Platinum Vehicle Service Agreement $0 deductible 8 year/100K miles for my 2011 Toyota Tacoma Double Cab Short Bed 4x4 TRD Off-Road.

Wanted to find out what people think think about Toyota Extra Care.

    Thanks.

Anyone know how to edit the poll?
Options 2 should be: Have it & wish I'd saved the money.

That's why we bought Toyota, so we don't have to pay extra for peace of mind.

the good thing about getting a protection plan is that is u sell the veh within a couple or yrs u can contact the comp and they will refund the balance of that protection plan, i have done that a few times, alot of people do not know that.;)

I got it on my wifes 2011 Toyota Rav-4. It gives me exstra peace of mind. Yes it is a Toyota, but thay have a lot more computers in them these days that are expensive to replace if need be.

    Look at my screen title

First off they will not cover a TSB even with a faulty part that still somewhat functions.

They charge you a diagnostic fee to pay the tech even though it is supposed to be a 100% free repair if you have platinum. Fight with them on this and do not sign for the diagnostic fee ever. Make them call extended care.

The dealers do not want to deal with extended care since most claims are denied and it is added paperwork.

It is not worth dealing with unless the repair is over $300 since it is not seemless in anyway.

If a repair is over about 1,000 a field inspector has to come out and guess what he is like the guys on the phone and do not want to cover anything either.

I have been in a number of times with little luck. I have worked on cars for a over 15 years but do not have the time to wrench or care enough for this daily driver to do myself which is the reason for the warranty. My rear window still is not fixed and they state they have solved the problem.

Search on here and you will see how people have been charged for the simple blower motor problem which is widely known but the dealer charged shop time to clean the filter due to leaves. They also will not cover the housing if it holds the motor if they can source parts separately.

    FUCK YOU "TOYOTA" extended care

Ruins the whole name for toyota in my eyes since it is branded with their name.

I will get my rear TSB it is not going to slip away from me before mine expires. I will be that thorn in their side until they cover it.

IMO, extra warranties or service agreements are a major rip off. Companies makes TONS of money off of these. A huge percentage of consumers never need these at all!

    Lol at that guy^^^^^^
Everyone thinks they know all the ins and outs of dealerships, but until you spend 10 yrs there as a tech and a service writer you really have no idea.

    Back on topic.

I'm a former toyota mechanic and I have it.

There is a difference between the toyota brand one and an aftermarket. The toyota brand is much easier for the service dept. to use, the aftermarket ones force the service writers to do a ton of paperwork.

Well I got it. Bought it on my last Taco and never used it. Had to use it on the 05 4runner for the door locks. That came out to $1000 just for parts for all the lock actuators. Like someone else said, these trucks have a lot of computerized crap on them and it will cost out the ass to get it fixed on your own. The way I look at it is, it's just like insurance, you hope to not need it but glad you have it if the need may arrise. I hope this truck will be as good as my 2000 was but, you never know.

    I have the Toyota one.

It all depends what they are going to charge you for the plan. There is room to negotiate a price. When I bought my truck I opted for the 5 year 160000km plan. They originally wanted over 2000 but I got it for around 1300.

It was worth it IMO as the repairs that were done under warranty were more than the plan.
    - full steering rack
    - power steering pump
    - shocks all the way around
    - 4 axle seals
    - 2 airbag sensors
    - full front end vehicle wiring harness

But lj973gm does have a point about diagnostic fees that they don't want to cover. Bringing your truck in because the engine light is on throws a code and they will know what's wrong and then fix it. That's one thing.

I will give you an example of one of my experiences with the diagnostic fee. My truck seemed to be shifting very oddly at highway speeds, didn't want to go back into overdrive and sometimes was shifting a little harder when cruise is on and when I was cresting a hill. I brought it to the dealer a few times and they couldn't reproduce the problem. They wanted to charge me a diagnostic fee as my plan did not cover them not finding a problem. Eventually it was solved and the cause was another toyota dealer had not put in the proper amount of transmission fluid on my last service.

So, the point is that if there is something clearly wrong, it's covered but if it's something that requires a little investigative work and they don't find the problem right away they will try and stick you with the shop rate for the time spent. I can understand this to a point. I used to work at a dealership years ago and you would be surprised at what people come in to complain about. However there are legitimate issues that can be brought up. If ever encountered there's nothing wrong with dealing with the service manager.

I'm the type of person that if something goes wrong with the truck I'm getting it fixed and I keep it in pristine condition. It's nice to be able to head over to the dealer and say fix it, without worrying if its a 2500 dollar repair. I'm glad I got it and consider it money well spent.

By the way the plan I bought was called ECP - Extra Care Protection. Might be just a different name up here in Canada.

Good grief....and somehow you know I don't have the experiences to give my opinion? Once again, if this is "extra" on top of your basic warranty, most people won't ever need to use it. Just my opinion, glad it was funny:p.

I got it for peace of mind. Very easy now for a routine problem to be more than a thousand dollars. DO NOT pay retail for the extra warranty. The warranty can be purchased from a dealer on the internet. The dealer started at $1,800 for the 6 year 125k warranty. I got it for a little less than 900 bucks after I showed them what I could get it for elsewhere. Even if I don't need it, it is nice to know I won't have any huge unexpected repair bills. I like to gamble, but I prefer to do it in a casino with "free" drinks delivered by coctail waitresses.

Here in Hawaii the insurance carrier that Servco uses to offer the extended care has abolished the refund if you don't use the warranty. Its pretty much not worth it anymore since you don't get the refund after 8 years.

The one we bought on my wife's 2005 Subaru saved us over $4k easy. We paid $1300, and literally just 10k miles before it was up, she needed a combined $6000 in work. Subaru covered every dime, and unlike Toyota, never even argued about it. They jumped right in & took care of everything.

Read the print and do a little research. The "Toyota" warranty is a third party company like Toyota Financial and it is hit or miss. Personally I think it is garbage and would never buy another one again. Bad investment...RUN AWAY......

I've been driving for 40 years and Toyota's service is the most expensive I've experienced (I've owned everything from Fords to BMWs). I bought the Extra Care plan, no regrets.

I have the Extra Care Plan and love the security and it has come in handy.

For those who have had problems with their dealers, go to another dealer (if you are able within a reasonable distance) until you find one that will work with you--I don't believe they are all bad. My dealership is excellent and as far as I'm concerned, bend over backwards to ensure I'm satisfied. Never had an issue with my plans and that's why I've bought 3 vehicles from them and will continue to do so. I prefer to drive 30 minutes to go to Toyota of Boerne just outside San Antonio because the in-city dealerships are full of lazy-ass workers (some can barely speak English so basic communication is near impossible) and are owned by auto-mart conglomerates. Mine is privately owned by a guy named Vick Vaughan and it's his only dealership... and that may be all the difference.
