So the dealership and Toyota corporate called me back and have set up appointment in a few weeks for an engineer/field tech to look at my tacoma for the multiple problems I seem to have. One is the continuing loud bearing/humming noise that is coming from the rear of the truck and seems to be getting louder(rear diff was replaced once already). I have a pull to the left when applying the brake pedal, and finally the water dripping onto the passenger side floor mat when using fresh air mode with my a/c running. You guys have any experience dealing with these engineers that come to Toyota dealerships to help the techs? Are they typically on the money and what’s my chances of him coming up with a solution to these problems. Truck has 5k miles. Completely stock.

In Gm land they were usually pretty decent when they came, however expect the noise to be noise resonance from the leaves through the cab. There is an old bulletin they applied to my truck for it. It helped... for the pull they'll probably service all four corners of your brakes, adjust the drums then check for a loose front end component. For the hvac system dripping it's probably condensation on the outside of the case. Maybe they'll wrap it with something but that one they may just say it's normal

The noise in the rear I’m really thinking is a bad wheel bearing. It changes when turning sometimes(the sound). So you think the engineer will actually take his time to go over my truck thoroughly?

The field reps Toyota has are very knowledgeable and helpful, at least when I worked in service at a dealership.

Our rep was verrrrry knowledgeable, and was genuinely curious about any issues.

Top quality people from my experience.

I've seen many threads here and elsewhere about the dripping AC issue.... as far as i remember, Toyota doesn't consider it a problem

So your dealership is unable to diagnose a potentially bad wheel bearing and an issue with condensation dripping, that they need to call in a field rep? Interesting

I think with all my complaints they just want a higher authority to look at it I guess…

i got the same dripping a/c issue on the passenger side floorboards with the fresh air mode enabled. I did park under a tree for a couple years and always had to clean all the junk out. I want to try removing the cowl and cleaning everything out. I think there's some debris in there that is absorbing moisture/rain and it starts to drip when it starts pulling in air from the cowl.

Sometimes a higher authority is needed to say what the dealer can do. I had an MR2, 3000 miles out of warranty and the Temp gauge went out. The Toyota Rep told the dealer to fix it free because it is not like I abused the Temp gauge.

Not toyota but my clutch blew out on my old vw gti vr6 when it had less than 15k on it. The service writer had it out for me for some reason because it was lowered. Ironically that same service writer drove a lowered modified audi a4. Dude denied my warranty claim I called bs so vw sent a tech out to the dealer. I had requested to be present during the inspection which vw granted. The tech was there for 15 min looked the service writer straight in the eye and said if I ever have to come back here for BS like this I'll make sure you're no longer a service writer

The cause a faulty bolt in the clutch housing sheared and shredded the clutch 100% covered.

IDk if he did or not but dude was pissed he had to drive out from the proving grounds to look at it. His opinion was it was 100% clear a manufacturer defect and the service writer was just being a dick

the service writer probably assumed you didn't know how to use a clutch properly. but if they didn't even look at it, that's on them.

My 1981 Toyota 4x4 MT blew the trans bearings, out of warranty. I took it apart and took the bearings to Michigan bearing who guaranteed they had every bearing ever made. I spent the whole day with them, at the end they were 1000's off. Said I'd have to go to the dealer. Went to the dealer and told them what happened, they went in the back and brought out all 4 bearings. They gave them to me. Even said if I brought the truck to them they'd put it back together for nothing. I did the repair myself, but that sold me on Toyota, even to this day. OP, I hope you get the same results like I did.

My Ac drips on my 15, 18 and my 23.

Aren't you the guy who put oil stop leak putty all around your timing cover on your brand new truck hoping it would help stop a leak further down the road? Don't take this the wrong way but hopefully you tried to scrape that off cause if a field engineer sees that he's gonna think you're a kook.

Not trying to be rude but maybe you just being a bit OCD about the truck and focusing on problems that aren't really there? I'm on my 3rd tacoma, they all make noise and clunks and drive like ancient trucks, buzz, vibrate etc.

Field reps/engineers don't have "that" much pull. They are the bridge between the dealer and Toyota when it comes to issues like this. Toyota corporate ultimately makes the call but it's based on what the engineer says.

If you have been to the dealer 10 times already and the have attempted to fix the brake issue more than 3 times or if you have been without your truck for more that 30 days just lemon law the truck. The laws are cut and dry and if you meet the requirements it's a quick and easy process.
