After a quick look, mine does have both, the metal shims and some smaller "synthetic" ones towards the ends of the leafs. However, my truck, a '08 PR, only has two clips per side, (best I can tell).image.jpg It was bought from my wife's dealership (not Toyota) with a clean report. What gives? The "clips" centered in the crappy crop of the OP's pic are the ones missing. I'll look closer again in the morning, but I'm fairly certain these are missing from both sides.

Hey markcal, not really sure how the link you provided shows the 6 clips like the image I posted, but thanks for doing the search for me. Appreciate it.

No problem Nick, I thought the diagram you posted couldn't be more clear.

Basically 3 clips = replace leaf spring on 3 leaf pack
4 clips = doesn't need to be replaced on a 3 leaf pack

3 clips = replace leaf spring on a 4 leaf pack
6 clips = doesn't need to be replaced on a 4 leaf pack

If anyone owns a 2005-2011 and have 3 clips, they get new leaf springs. The diagram makes that pretty clear on the action they take.

I would do the same thing before buying them. I know older 2nd generation Tacoma's had a problem with frame rot, so maybe the leaf springs were made better for the newer models, but I feel all 4 leaf packs like yours should come with 6 clips.

    Same as everybody else...
I have 3 clips, went in for the inspection and was told that my truck qualifies for the leaf pack replacement. I was told that it would take about 10 days for the parts to show. There were about 7 other Tacos at the service dept when I was there, all early model 2nd gens.

AFAIK the fix is for mid-year 2011 trucks and earlier.

Had mine inspected this morning and was told the same thing. Replacement spring should be here in a week to 10 days.

Its not suppose to be in that location, its suppose to be inbetween the leaf springs right under where the ubolts hold everything together, That aluminum piece has a hole in the middle that the one bolt to hold the leaf pack together is suppose to go through. When I did my AAL in the rear I notice them too and they all line up in the middle with the bolt going through them all.

    Good info.

I had a suspension shop do my AAL. They must not have lined them up right on re-assembly.

Yup, they didn't do it correctly then, make sure they reinstall the bottom shim correctly too. The one on the bottom is tapered. The thicker end is pointed towards the front of the truck and the skinnier end is facing towars the back. This is put there to help with driveshaft angles to prevent vibrations.

The other ones are just regular flat pieces of aluminum, I believe they help reduce noise/squeaks or whatever their purpose is. There should be one in between each leaf spring, with the very bottom one being tapered as described.

Thanks for this easy explanation. I had the rear leaf TSB done four years ago. The new ones are 4 leaf with 4 clips....good to go!

    Need to look at mine.

I called a dealer I used for the clutch/T.O. bearing. Advisor said the springs are coming out of Texas? Should be to them in a week, told me a few hours to do the work.

Do you mean the TSB springs you have on the truck have 4 clips? I had the TSB springs put on six years ago and they are 4 leaf but only have 3 clips. Mine are getting replaced I think.

According to the data sheet on the first page, they should get replaced.
