I have very much wondered the same thing recently, especially after seeing how badly/quickly the 2nd gens rust out, but judging by the sales numbers, doesn't seem like people care either way

I'd like to know why they are only covering up to 2008 in Canada, thats what my dealer told me.

So I took my 08 in over a year ago, and the new frame was denied. Am I eligible for a second inspection? The holes are noticeably increasing in diameter, but didn't meet the "dime-sized" requirement on the first inspection. The dealership, last time I was in, said I had already had my inspection...thanks!

Yep, you can take it back for another inspection. If you have the option might try a different dealer too.

Thanks. I still have time, so I might try it across town. I sort of had the feeling they just simply did not want to mess with it in the service department.

It is my understanding that you have 12 years from date of first use for the frame to fail. I believe if your holes increase to the 10mm level during this time you get a new frame. There is no one inspection and done bullshit in the settlement. I had mine in for something else and they said i had a hole in the frame but it was not big enough but to come back in 9 months to a year and it will fail by then. My date of first use was 2/20/2009 so i have almost 3 years for it to fail. I never authorized them to inspect my frame when they had it in but they did it anyway. They will not see my truck again until i am certain it will fail the frame inspection.

Good to know, thanks for the information. I suppose I'll poke around at some point and measure the perforations before hauling it to a dealer. I'll be rather pissed if I can't put another 100K miles on this truck just because of this issue; it is truly the only issue I have with this otherwise indestructible truck.

Just make sure you have the frame inspected 12 years from the in-service date, which if yours is sometime in 2008, it should be inspected before sometime in 2020.

I got my truck back for frame replacement last week with a CEL present.

I didn't have any going in, and now it does. p0171 and p0174. Tech said its my "multiple exhaust leaks" but all the leaks are from the y-pipe and back. fixed the pin-holes and still lean.
waiting for them to call me back about fixing the issue.

Overall i'm happy with everything...except for the CEL.

In regards to the other frame rust recall thread on this forum-

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/frame-rust-recall.263311/page-146#post-17381965

I see on that it is mentioned that only class members are qualified for a replacement. Class members are those who bought their truck before December of 2016?

I bought my 08 in May of 2017 and am starting to see rust buildup, I have a recall notice on my vin number from my Toyota owners account, but it says nothing on there about replacement.

Question is, has anybody who bought there truck after the date of the lawsuit been able to get a replacement or can elaborate on this for me.

To date I have not received any letters in the mail.

This question has been answered before on another thread, it doesn't matter when you bought it, what matters is the in-service date which must 12 years or less to qualify.

This question has probably been asked, but do they replace the factory tow package with this nonsense as well? Mine failed the inspection a couple weeks ago and the parts are on the way, but I just wanted to know if someone else with the tow package got a new receiver. Mine is rusted to shit.

Finally getting around to taking in my truck for a "second opinion" at a dealer my brother has had good experience with (with his 4runner). I talked to the service tech and she was genuinely knowledgeable about the WEP. I mentioned the under the bed the frame is "layering" she said that if the frame under the bed has that going on most likely the frame around the catalytic converter is fried. I take the truck in on the 31st!

Truck (07) has lived in CO all of its life. Was inspected in Jan of 16 under the LSC and "all was fine"... no holes yet but the hammer test will come hopefully within the next week, along with some measurements. New inspection coming on the 2nd. We shall see. Pictures start from passenger side mid section and look toward back right spring.

My 07 is being inspected tomorrow. The truck supposedly had the corrosion application done in 2015 but is wearing off. Truck has been in NJ, PA, and MD. Majority of rust is coming from inside the rails.

Made a appointment for the U joint issue plus the dealer never took care of the old access cab seatbelt issue. .So that will get done but they want to check frame again ( passed in August 2017)and coat with the CRC and check leaf springs .I said to the service schedule guy only coat my frame if its done neatly dont want that black shit all over my aftermarket suspension . Also tells me if I need new leaf springs they wont put my AAL back in .Fuck these dealerships .Might have to cancel my appointment!
