Getting a new frame! They frames are so backordered that they said it’ll probably be July by the time they are ready for me to come in. Glad I got a second opinion at a different dealer.

My frame failed the inspection and I’m waiting for parts right now. My dealer told me 6-8 weeks. I’ll put a new Class III receiver on it, too.

That’s a pretty short window. I hope mine ends up getting done way before July. Time to start saving for the lift.

I have a 2010 Tacoma. I stopped in to the local dealership back in December for another issue and they mentioned the frame inspection - it failed. The rust was in the hotspot by the cat. I never personally looked for it though. In general, I thought the frame was in decent shape. It took about 6 weeks for the new frame to arrive. I dropped the truck off on a fri, had it back the following sat. I was given a 2018 Taco for a loaner for the week (I think that was done on 'purpose' since I have been to the dealership looking at new vehicles).

My truck had ~161k on it at the time. I had some other work done while it was there as well. Overall, I was pretty happy with the outcome. It feels almost like a new truck. I was going to get a new vehicle this year but with all the work that was done I will probably hold off until I hit about 200k at this point, provided the truck is still doing well.

So how long does the inspection take?
Mine goes in next week, I already know there is a hole big enough to fail.

The inspection I had yesterday took about 3.5 hours but that included the tech and service writer submitting the claim to Toyota.

    Wow, 3.5 hours.
Maybe I should just point to the hole in my frame and ask when do I get my rental!:D

That would be too easy!:D It took them over an hour to get approval from Toyota that's what took my inspection so long. Then they tried to get me to buy a new steering rack lol.

Before trading up, i had a 06dc. Went in for recall. They replaced frame, rear leafs, brake lines. 4 page parts list. All covered. Couldn’t have been happier.

If it fails but is good enough to continue driving you won't have to wait for the whole approval process. They will let you drive home and call you to tell you if new frame is approved and when to bring it in. My frame has a hole but its not big enough yet. The service manager told me to bring it back 6 months to a year and it will be big enough. He said the frame is in good shape except for that one hole but thats all it takes. He said i can continue to drive it until they actually start working on it.

I looked around under my truck and all I could find is one hole about 20mm x 36 mm. The rest of the frame is in pretty good condition, I put alot of work into keeping it nice but looking back, it was just a waste of time and fluid film.
I saw a few trucks at the dealership sitting on trailers. Apparently too unsafe just to make it to the dealership.

My truck went in last Friday for a frame replacement. I don't think I had to wait more than 3-4 weeks for it to arrive.
If you have the stomach for it I recommend going in and checking it out. I stop by every day and talk to the Tech doing all the work (Les).

My service advisor explained to me that I could replace anything they had to take off with new parts if I choose although in some cases there may be a reduced labor cost.
I bought Bilstein 6112's for the front and 5160's for the rear. I think he said there is a small labor charge to replace the front shocks because it takes a little more disassembly that a standard frame swap. I think he said $140 in labor for the front. The rear shocks do not have any labor costs for replacement.

I also ended up buying new manifolds (even though they don't have to take them off to do the frame swap the motor is removed and therefore the labor charges go way down, I will end up paying $120 which seemed like a bargain). Magnaflow doesn't make the 4x4 Y pipe yet so everything after the manifolds is still stock but I can easily change the rest out myself.

I purchased some new factory *updated* headlights which my advisor said they would install for free.
Finally I bought refurbished factory wheels and new Duratrac's to give me summer and winter sets.

I figured a shiny new frame deserved a rust free tow hitch so I removed the bumper and hitch and cleaned the hitch up.
I decided to replace the rear bumper frame piece because it was so rusted it was not worth attempting to clean it.

Can't wait to get it back, hopefully this week.

IMG_2979.jpg Mine is seperating bad and passed. I'm bringing it to different dealer and if it passes again, I might be done with Toyota. So disappointing.

Hello Everyone, I bought a 06 Tacoma in 11/15/2017 I had the frame inspected and it passed. Also at the sametime the dealer installed new rear springs and sprayed the frame with CRC, which was great. Until 4/3/2018 when my son got a flat tire while using the truck. He used the factory jack and he didn’t get the tire off the ground when the jack blew through the frame. Back to the dealer 4/4/2018 and now the frame failed inspection bad. 4/5/2018 Toyota rejected the claim for warranty so my truck is currently junk with 118,431 on the odometer.

How did they justify not covering your frame, did they give you an explanation?

That's a real shame, they must not have done a great job inspecting it in 2017 because I'm pretty sure it didn't rot away in 4 or 5 months.
I can't tell where the hole is, I've seen a couple threads here that deal with patch panels that you can have welded on to repair rust prone areas.
