    Thank you guys for all the responses! It sucks playing the waiting game, but at least it'll be inspected Saturday morning so not that long of a wait. I'll keep you guys posted on the outcome. On a side note, they are also looking into the driveshaft u-joint vibration issue I've been having. It shakes like a sumbitch at 35 then mellows out until about 65 and starts back up again, I've greased the hell out of them since I bought the truck but it never seemed to help. It's my understanding that the factory u-joints did NOT have zero fitting to grease them, yet all of mine have them, including the front short shaft off the transfer case to the front diff. Is this right? Or have all the u-joints on my entire driveline been replaced at some point?

    Not sure about the U-Joints having grease fittings? I think I got something in the mail a couple weeks ago from toyota talking about looking at something causing vibrations, It may have been the u-joints.

    I got the same letter a few weeks ago as well. I seem to remember lurking around these forums when I first got the truck and seeing something about the u-joints not being user serviceable (no fittings) although I may be mistaken. My entire driveline was moving like crazy under power and hitting bumps, which lead me to replace the trans mount, and carrier bearing, I also made 2 brackets that I sandwiched around the leaf springs to help with axle wrap but I took them off to take it to the dealership and honestly haven't noticed a huge difference without them. I also bought 2 motor mounts but never got around to actually putting them on yet and they are sitting in a box somewhere in my machine shop lol. I knew when buying the truck that it needed some work but I bought it anyways because it was exactly what I was looking for mechanically speaking and the body/interior were in amazing shape. Pretty sure it was a company truck and had a vinyl wrap because the paint was damn near perfect.

    My friend owns a body shop and he has been rust proofing the inside of these new replacement frames with amber cavity wax. On the outside of the frame he uses waxed based underbody coating, all of the products are self healing. Meaning any chips or scratches won’t hold salt or moisture. Fluid film works, but doesn’t last more then a year.

    Have you heard of NH Oil? It's suposed ot be self healing and it is also suposed to creep to cover more surface area. I used this on the inside of my new frame.

    I have not done anything to the outside of the frame yet but I want to.
    I like the idea of a longer lasting wax based underbody coating for the outside. Can you give us any tetails on that product?

    Hey all,

    Took my truck in for the U-joint inspection and the guy at the service counter told me I'd need to get a new frame after a quick peek under the truck. Didn't even have to ask. Pretty excited as I just got a quote from a mechanic (not Toyota) with a list of suggested replacement parts:

    * R/F Wheel Bearing
    * Outer Tie Rods
    * R/F Lower Ball Joint
    * L/F Upper Ball Joint

    After going through this thread I have a few questions that I couldn't find answers to. If anyone could provide an answer(s) I'd appreciate it. I apologize if these were already answered.

    Questions:
    1. Are any of the suggested replacement parts (mentioned above) included with the frame replacement?
      1a. Does Anyone have a list of everything included with frame replacement or is it a case by case basis?
    2. At ~230,000 miles, is there anything not included I should consider replacing while they've got it torn apart?
    3. Are there any upgrades to factory parts I should consider (regardless of mileage) that would be included OR have a reduced labor fee with the frame replacement?
    4. Does anyone who's had their frame replaced have any advice/pro tips they'd wished they'd known before and/or during the process?

    Thanks to everyone that has already shared info and experiences on this topic so far. You're all awesome and I sincerely appreciate your time!

    Please let me know if you have any questions or need any clarification on my questions above.

    Yeah.
    I don't think any of the parts you listed would be considered part of a frame replacement. Springs, shocks, and any related bushings are things I would look at on a truck that age. They will likely run into some crumbling rubber stuff as they do the replacement. Might consider doing inner tie rods as well to make sure the front end is tightened up nicely.

    I had Magnaflow stainless exhaust manifolds installed since the engine/trans was going to be out. I paid $140 for labor total.
    I was told by my service advisor that the manafold swap is typically a 10 hour job, I saved a ton of money doing it during the frame swap.

    Good luck!

    Update. It passed inspection, the service writer says it's all surface rust with no perforations over 10mm... I'm actually pretty pissed because now my frame is beat to shit all over. Like dents, scratches, the whole 9 yards. Any insight on this guys? Or am I screwed?

    Crawl under your truck and look for yourself. It's the only way to know for sure.

    My frame failed the test yesterday with a very small hole that I pointed out to them.
    Still waiting on toyota to approve the new frame.

    I have, and I took tons of pictures before the inspection. Would it be in my best interest to go to a different dealer and get them to look?the service writer here was kind of a dick, very arrogant like Ha, gotcha! I didn't pound on my frame for fear of them saying I tampered with it, should I? I'm just worried that now that I've had the inspection done and they said there were no perforations, if I find some, they will say I did it and deny the warranty
