Toyota Frame Rust Recall

Got the call Friday ,my frame is in . They are waiting on the leaf springs then they said it will take a week to do the work . Johnston’s Toyota ,New Hampton ,NY . They have told me they have done over 1500 frame swaps so they should be good at it

 

That's what I thought, but when I went to legal site (firm representing the initial claim) I clicked on "claim" and it said the period had expired. Maybe that was just for the lawsuit.

Is there a list of "cold-climate states"?

 

I’m a 2008 and mine is getting done this month . Dealer will be calling me tomorrow,they called the other day . There is a list of states somewhere in one of these rusty frame threads .What state are you in ?

 

I'm in Colorado. It doesn't look like we're a "cold-climate state"...which is weird, because it gets pretty f'n cold here. Definitley rust on the frame, though.

 

I think most of the states covered are in the “salt belt” mostly east coast and Pa,Ohio,Michigan...... I’m in Ny .

Yeah, makes sense. They use Mag Chloride out here for snow. Not sure it has the same effect. I gotta check where the truck came from.

They said 1 week to do the work . I told them I need a truck as a loaner so hoping to get a new Tacoma for a week

CRC eligible states
Note: This campaign covers vehicles currently registered in the following Cold Climate States (together, “Cold Climate States”): District of Columbia (DC), CT, DE, IL, IN, KY, MA, MD, ME, MI, MN, NH, NJ, NY, OH, PA, RI, VA, VT, WI & WV.

 

It looked like for other states they possibly offer coating (CRC).

 

Frame replacement is for all states if frames fails inspection. If frame passes inspection in the listed cold weather states then CRC is offered.

 

That's exactly what I did. Got put in an 18 sport 4x4. though was fun I preferred my 07.

 

got my frame replaced by Toyota about a month ago and the only issues I had after was they didn't bother to bleed my brakes and I had a loud grinding noise coming from the passenger cv axle. instantly turned around and had them bleed my brakes and they also took a look at the grinding and replaced my cv axle. no more grinding but just the other day I noticed that when im in 4h or 4lo the bind/grinding noise comes back. Gonna have to take another trip back to the dealer. other than that cant complain. Free frame

 

Sounds like before leaving the lot after a swap everyone shoild give the brakes a thorough checking and run through 4hi and low.. lots of complaints about that post swap!

 

Yeah, I've noticed the same thing.

 

There are two different things going on. There was an actual recall for frame issues, and that ended, I believe, in March 2017. I foolishly missed that one, though I got the notice. My frame didn't look so bad (I thought).

What's going on now is the settlement of a Class Action suit - this is NOT the same thing as a recall. The time limits were/are May 21st this year, OR 12 years from the date the vehicle went in service, so Tacomas from 2007 on are still covered. This time, I brought my 2007 Taco in at the beginning of May, and qualified for a new frame. I'm waiting for parts to arrive, but in the meantime I'm stylin' around in a brand new Tacoma Dual Cab with all the fixin's.

You should be covered - get it in to a dealer... if you need a new frame, you probably REALLY need a new frame. And add 10 years to the life of the vehicle...

 

plainsman23 - the Recall campaign is still in active!! I took my rig in 7 weeks ago, for another concern, and was alerted to Frame AND Rear Leaf springs were still under a current warranty recall campaign.. and that my vehicle was eligible (my rust was bad enough!)

I was told it would take about 4-6 weeks to make and deliver the new frame (From Mexico...Oi) and they would call me and the swap process should take a few days...

My dealer told me last week the frame still isn't in yet, but should be shortly.... my fingers are crossed!

I am in St. Augustine FL, vehicle was purchased in Gainesville, FL

 

For what it's worth, I have an '06 and was told by my dealer that i was covered and part of a "2nd recall campaign..." maybe he misspoke somewhat, but I was told that my vehicle is covered.... and i'm waiting now for the frame to arrive. (i'm at week 7 now of the 4-6 weeks to get the new frame delivered...)
