So the only labor the are charging on paper anyway is to do the shocks?
Seems some of the prices for the parts include labor also.
    Mine was completed 9/10/18.
My list wasn’t as long but here it is.
    Parts I supplied!
Power steering rack oem w/bushings and inner tie rods 678$
    Lower intermediate shaft 164$
Outer tie rods 78$ for both.
The above oem parts came from
    EB Toyota parts.

Billistien rear shocks and energy body and rad bushings w/a tube of super lube from Amazon

The above parts were in the truck waiting. I was going to add the power steering lines also but didn’t.
At initial inspection I was informed I had a tail light out and needed a cabin air filter. They also recommend sway bar bushings and tire sensors. Lol ok yes to the sway bar bushings no to the rest!

When it was separated and being swapped they called and said the tech doing it thinks it’s a really good idea to do the power steering lines. I was invited to stop in to see what his concerns were! So I did, I had met with the tech doing it a few times already and agreed to do the lines also.
Short on time I got them from the dealer.

Sway bar bushings, power steering lines and rear plate bulbs came from the dealer.

The dealer charged me 1/2 price for the lines and like 25$ for the sway bar bushings.
And a whopping 130$ for extra labor.

I ended up with the left axle needle bearing vibes after the swap. The same tech did the tsb on it which is not covered out of warranty for 216$

My 08 with 170k drives as good as my 2017 loaner did!
Super pleased with the work done!

Does anyone know what the standards are or the test for when they inspect the frame? I keep reading about at least a 10mm hole but what about mine where it looks like there is about a 4 inch long separation due to rust? I dont know if thats bracing thats separating or just the end of the front boxed section. I looked under the truck again and the same thing is happening on the other side as well.

Quoted my pics for reference. First pic is what Im talking about.

I had the frame on my '07 replaced last month. Immediately after I took it to Reg's (in Toronto) for rustproofing.

This is a very smart person, wish I knew then what I know now as I would have had the frame rustproofed from day uno. :frusty:

I'm not really up to speed on modern rust-proofing. Can anyone point me in the direction of a resource that lists the different approaches/technologies/chemical cocktails and the pros/cons of each. Are there any stand out winners?

My experience with products like Fluid Film tells me that they're only suitable for cavities, they'll just leave a sticky residue on external surfaces and trap lots of dirt. I'm not keen on full asphalt undercoating since that will make the truck difficult to work on in the future and trap a any body rust.

Thoughts on this topic are appreciated.

We use lps 3 at work and this is a part I machined the flanges on.
A light coat of lps 3 and it’s been outside in the parking lot or in the woods for close to 2 years.

Im hoping it fails. like I said, I took it to a different dealership and it passed, but that was 3 years ago. I live in Georgia so I doubt its gotten too much worse in that time but who knows, I didn't look in these spots back then. I hate to say it but if it doesnt get replaced Ill be considering selling the truck. I carry my family in this thing and Im not dealing with the liability of something happening with them in it.

Dang I thought I posted a lot took me 7 years to hit 1k. We are definitely not going for top poster status!
Get it on a lift and do some poking. Seems pending the dealer is how willing they are to say it’s bad.
My dealer jumped at the spot I showed them. They have done enough to know how make $ on them without putting the shaft to the owener.
My thought is that if it’s a exception to the norm they are confused. And are reluctant to do it.
I had spent a lot of time trying to save my frame and failed!
    Don’t trust the dealer!
    Those black spots?
    Are they soft?
Don’t beat it but definitely tap at it maybe poke at with an all.
If it becomes the size of the opening of a 10mm wrench it fails!
You have til 3/19 by your letter unless the 2020 post is true!

Unless Toyota sends me something in writing that states they have extended it until 2020, I would go with what Toyota sent us in the mail. The owners who are over their 12 year "in-service date" make sure you go before 1/31/2019, so you don't miss this window that Toyota has widened.

For sure go by the letter you received! And in service date!!
Why I stated if it’s true!
If the the 2020 date is good it would save a lot of tacos!

The only proof of the 2020 date is some statement on a dealership repair order. Truthfully that other person shouldn't have brought it up unless it comes from Toyota. The only reason I mentioned it is because some people may not completely read these posts and could just remember the 2020 year, then miss out on a 10's of thousands repair. You just want to help people with your great experience, like I do but just wished people would stick with what is known and if Toyota does put it in writing, then give the 2020 date.

Not sure about where you are but here in VT you are not allowed to patch a frame without a cert.
A bad frame pretty much totals a vehicle.
If your frame is said to be good at your end date and your not comfortable my decision was to cave and trade it in.

    Good luck man!
Wish all tacos got a new frame!

So has anyone here declined the CRC and later gotten a new frame?

I had mine inspected 2 years ago. Unfortunately it passed. I declined the CRC because I wanted to do POR15 instead.

2 upstate NY winters later, even with the POR15, the frame is looking rough. Bad separations between layers but I haven't found a hole yet. I am hoping a hole appears this winter. In service date was 5/21/07 so I have until May '19.

My fear is that I'll take it and it will fail and they will deny it because I declined the CRC 2 years ago. Thoughts?

I just fluid filmed my new frame for the winter. Thinking about taking it to get undercoated from someplace but maybe next winter we will see how this does.

    I was wondering this myself?
I wanted to refuse mine and was pissed after I let them do it!
Anywho I think you’ll be ok!
I’m sure your local dealers do lots of frames!
Thinking once you point the bad spots out and qualify.
    You get a frame.
My crc did nothing 6 months later it was bubbling due to rust growing underneath.

I agree 100% you say it’s good buy it!
    What comes around!
But it still sucks to have to loose your ride over it.
