I’ve got better crap to worry about than if my truck gets started and gets to operating temp every other week. It’s got 175k on the clock. If the poo hits the fan pretty sure I’m not going to think “ yep, should have started it while it was at the dealer for 2 months”

That's good to hear. That is probably where I will take mine to have it looked at. The original owner bought it there. I just got the notice that I qualify under the recall. Mine is a 2008 and I'm good until June of 2020.

I would like my truck to be moved occasionally to prevent dry rot forming on the tires.

Not dry rot. Sitting still for a long time *may cause a flat spot. But it'd take longer than 1 or 2 months. More like 6 and still no guarantee it will happen.

I'm seeing a lot of people with 2010 models n such in this thread. Did Toyota expand the recall to more models or years? I have a 2011, but I'm in a dry Vegas climate, so probably not too bad.

Should I go talk to the dealer, get her looked at?

I never got a frame recall letter. I stopped in my dealer and had them look to see if my VIN was in the recall batch. Some people got letters. I did for the leaf springs. Check with the dealer or Toyota HQ 1-888-270-9371.

Looking at buying a used 2010 4 cyl, manual 4x4 as a second vehicle from a Toyota dealer a few hours from me. Living in the Northeast and knowing of the frame issue I asked them to run the VIN if it was in the recall and they told me no. Going forward if something does arise I believe I have 12 years from original purchase date to be replaced, etc. Is my reasoning correct?

Your eligibility for a frame replacement doesn't have much to do with the VIN - If it's 2010, it's eligible if it has the quanlifying perferation(s). And it's NOT a recall at this point. There WAS a recall that ended in 2016 (I missed it because I was thinking May when they said March in the recall letter- oh well, I got in on the settlement!). What's happening now is the settlement to a lawsuit. A 2010 Taco is most definitely covered.

So, running the VIN might not flag eligibily for a recall, because there IS no recall, technically. I wish more people would understand this.

Okay, just trying to get clarification on this issue. Lots of confusing info out there.
Can't imagine a Toyota dealer selling a vehicle with issues, but anything is possible I guess just need to crawl under and check.

Yes, there is a lot of confusing info out there! And yes, if I were you I'd have a good look at the frame. And I'd be wary of a dealership that didn't seem to know about the frame settlement... or pretended not to know.

Got my truck back last week after 7 weeks of waiting. The thing is tight as a drum, like a new truck with no rattles...very pleased so far. I did have to cough up around $550 for new calipers, but well worth it in my opinion.

Scheduled my inspection, one dealership told me I was out of luck and that the recall ended on January 31st this year. I tried to explain to her that it was 12 years after first use. She didn't agree and told me to contact corporate, so I called another dealership and got it scheduled for Friday at 3pm. Some people.....

I got my 07 back about a week ago and I could not be more satisfied. Truck should last longer than me.

here is my story with pictures

Aug 2018 I purchased a 2006 tacoma from a used car dealer. After looking over a couple forums for the tacoma I realized there was an extended warranty for frame rust. This was late December and I went to a local dealership (mountain states toyota) to get the full service records from toyota to see if the inspection had been done.

After reviewing the records I noticed it had not been done even though the truck had been brought in 6/17 to have a multitude of other services done including some tsbs. At this point I made an appointment for Jan 25th 2019 to have the frame inspected.

The 25th came and due to work I couldn't get the truck to them so I canceled. Feb 7th I had happened to be near another toyota dealership and had them look at the frame..and of course it failed with some serious holes that ar pictured above. However I was informed that the extended warranty expired Jan 31st which was 7 days out of warranty by the technician and service advisor.

I called toyota service and stated my case stating that even though I missed my initial date the truck had failed and even though it was 7 days after the problem still would have failed on the date of the 31st as well as the very strong probability that if the frame had been checked on 6/17 it most likely would have failed again.Toyora service said they would escalate it to the next level and I would be given a call on the 8th.

The 8th came around and the situation is the same, they will not help in the frame fix.

Have you talked to the used car dealer? they sold you a structurally unsafe vehicle..obviously your state doesn't have a safety inspection.

perhaps contacting the attorney involved in the class action suit will help. Brian Warner vs toyota.
