Who here has had their frame inspected more than once? Just called to schedule a reinspection and was told "it passed so thats it there is no reinspection". The frame was already coated when I bought it so I'm not sure what condition it looked like before it was coated. I also know plugs were installed when the CRC was done so, technally, couldn't it be eating itself from inside the frame? Its a 2009 I have two years left to go on whole recall deal.

I have had my frame inspected twice and even though the window of my Tacoma is closed I could have had it inspected a third time, but didn't. I talked to Toyota and not the dealership about this very subject and was told I could bring it in as many times as I wanted. Something like this it's always better to get it from the horse's mouth and not relying on what some service associate at the dealership was told.

Paul, I can't really help with the cost, but having mine coated in 2014 I can say it's holding up well. A few things that I thought really helped was: 1. Doing at the time of year where the temperature is high enough to let it fully cure. 2. I have never used high-pressure spray on the frame since having it coated and have only used a garden hose (recommended by the company that makes the CRC). 3. I apply a Fluid Film coating over the CRC in the fall and has kept the CRC supple/waxy, which will keep it from flaking off.

Hi Markal, thanks for ur feedback! I live in Maine and often use the car-wash "undercarriage" option. Is this not a good idea? And would you recommend using a spray-on application in the fall ?

Mine was inspected in 2016 by the previous owner and it was coated at the time. When I purchased it, I called to book an inspection and the dealer tried to tell me it had already passed so it was no longer eligible.

I disagreed and told her that wasnt how it worked, so they scheduled an appointment anyways. They called me right after they looked it over and approved a new frame.

    Just tell them they're wrong.

I had my frame inspected and it passed. They applied the CRC. Then as I approached the end of the program for my truck I had it inspected again at another dealer. It failed and I now have a new frame on my truck.

I had my '08 inspected in 2017 and it passed. I was told by one service writer that a second time was not an option, but I knew better...I just rolled in a few weeks later, and another service writer scheduled my 2nd inspection with no questions asked. It was so far gone they would not let me leave the lot in it. 7 weeks later I drove off with what felt like a new truck. Squeaks and rattles are gone, and I don't worry about the frame snapping in half.

Thanks all for the replies. Honestly has/had me sweating a bit. Hard to justify throwing money at a truck when you're unsure of the frame condition.

    Howdy,

My '07 frame failed the perforation test yesterday, they replaced my leaf springs and I am officially on the list for a replacement frame. I'm currently 25th in line and my estimated appointment time is nearly two years away... It's a small shop and they only have 1 mechanic dedicated to frame replacements but the staff seem super nice and honest enough.

Should I take my failed test to other dealers to get the job done earlier? Or should I just wait it out? it's currently safe to drive and its only got 164000 km on it. I'm worried about taking it elsewhere, them doing their own test and saying it passes, and having that go on file.
Anywho, I'd love to hear what you rad dudes think.

    cheers!

First off, if it's already been inspected and determined that it needs a new frame, that means that corporate approved it. I would assume theres a paper trail for this.

I'd look into bringing it to another dealer to get the work done sooner. If you have to wait 2 years and you want to mod it in the meantime, the dealer may tell you to put it back to stock when your time comes 2yrs down the line.

Also by having the work done now will loosen up all the old bolts making it easier to change out parts underneath (if that's your intention). You also have a fresh platform to work with.

Not sure how it would take 2 years to do 25 frames because my dealer had mine done in a day and a half.

Something sounds fishy there. I would do your own inspection, so you know how things are. It only takes a 10mm rust hole to qualify for a new frame. I would call corporate and tell them you don't feel safe driving it and want a rental vehicle for 2 years. If that doesn't get the ball rolling, you need to let them know that your lawyer has requested that they put it in writing that it's safe to drive your truck for 2 years.

I heard from my dealer that Toyota may be extending a service to owners of 2012-2015 models. Talk of putting a rubber coating on the inside of the existing frames.

The conversation came up when I asked about undercoating. They said hold off to see if this comes through first.

Again it's not confirmed through Toyota to my knowl yet.

That crack wasn’t due to rust perforation. There isn’t any rust around the crack. After the metal cracked it then rusted due to the metal being exposed and areas where the coating chipped off around the crack. Can’t tell from those pics if it was due to a defect in the welds or if it was abused. But definitely not from rust perforation.

Those having troubles...remind the dealer that they get a $12,000 invoice to bill to Corporate.
