Had an inspection performed on my 2010 at Bernardi Toyota, Framingham. Waited for the tech out by my truck before he drove it in, and told him to not be shy picking around. Frame passed, (which i thought it would) and they let me know about their plans to proceed... This particular dealer is performing the scraping and desclaing at the dealership, then subcontracting out the actual CRC treatment to a local shop. Any thoughts on this? The service rep didn't have much information on the sub. Will be calling back to get some information on them, and maybe looking into going to another dealer that performs the full treatment in-house.

I'm still unsure if the CRC is even worth the hastle

The only way that garbage would be put on my vehicle would be if it was required to keep the 12 year warranty on my frame. Otherwise no way! If anything I think it speeds up the rust process

yea, and I especially don't think I like the idea of them subbing out the CRC application. They said corporate has been cracking down on what constitutes for replacement.

Welp, I just made an appointment for my truck to be looked at today. 2 hours is a lot of time to inspect a frame don't you think?

I personally have only seen signs of rust at the weld points so I don't think too much will come of this. Truck was originally sold in NJ and lived there and VA for about 3 years.

If they do need to replace it, and they try to give me a car instead of a truck I will attempt to not that happen. I drive a truck for a reason.....

My inspection took 3 hours due to it being the first truck at the dealer for the warranty enhancement program (different paperwork and processes).

Part of the lawsuit is to supply you with a similar rental, ie truck for truck / suv for suv. I got a Silverado for my rental.

Well this is good to know, I wouldn't mind taking a 3rd gen out for a little bit. That is if I even need one and they decide to give me a taco

That’s all dealer dependent. Some dealers are using their own inventory and billing toyota for the rental, some are going third party. My dealer used enterprise for their rentals.

Might be too late but can you post a picture of your frame? I really dislike bernardi service, I bought my truck from them but at the time I asked them to check the rear springs for the original tsb and all they did was stand in the bed and jump and then said the springs were fine. One of the springs cracked a year later and I had to pay to replace it.

I don't really like ANY of the dealers around our area but I'm going to have Boch South check mine after winter, I'm giving it a good long time to rust up before bringing it in.

hahaha wow, too bad there isn't a video of them jumping around in the bed. I'll snap a few pictures of my frame when I get a chance to get under there. **Right now**, it's just surface rust along both frame rails and at the welds. Last week, I was picking around and had a flathead inside the boxed frame and was chipping off quarter/half dollar size flakes from the inner channel.... veryyyy similar to my '02 that ended up with a 2"x6" hole right through at the passenger side font facing leaf mount. Makes me extra hesitant on the CRC because i don't see how they can possibly prep and apply treatment on the inside of the box... as others have said, sounds to me like a way to visually mask the problem, until the rust eats through from the inside out!

has anyone got their frame replaced in Canada? I recently got my rear leaf springs replaced under recall but is the frame recall just for the states?

Just got my truck back from inspection. All is good regarding rust thankfully. The service manager talked to me for a little about the frame settlement. Told me that if my frame does develop rust by the end date of this campaign then I can bring it back and they will replace it for free even if there are no signs of rust now.

I doubt it expedites the rust seeing as its a wax based product but "protect" the frame I dont really think so...makes a good mess though

You have 12 years from the Date of first use of the vehicle to get the frame inspected( IE the paperwork filed) to qualify for frame replacement so you having a 2009 you have plenty of time

Should have clarified, he meant that if anything goes wrong between now and 5/21/19 they will fix it.

I have seen what the crc looks like after a few years, dried out and holding salt and moisture between the coating and the frame, expediting the rust process imo

No, you have till some time in 2020 or 2021, depending on when the date of 1st use was. The WEP states 12 years from the date of 1st use.

Yes, it's the latter of 1 year from court settlement or 12 years from date of 1st use.

Whoa, I live on Oahu and your truck looks like it's from New York or the rust belt where they salt the roads during winter. Sorry to see that but that's typical Servco BS response that they need authorization from Toyota to do anything. Good luck, hop it gets resolved quickly.
