Just got two letters in the mail for my 2014 Tacoma. One for the Frame Corrosion Inspection/Replacement issue (Warranty Enhancement Program) and another for the CRC application (Limited Service Campaign). Bah. Booked an appt for Tue. with my dealer to have the inspection done and see what's up. This new one covers all the way up to 2017.... which is into 3rd Gen territory.

Just got my initial letter today notifying of the issue. You would think after the last frame debacle costing toyota $3 billion they would have figured this issue out. Still love my truck no matter what comes of this.

Edit: does anyone know if having a CMC will affect them covering this in anyway. I was just about to schedule to get mine done next week and received the letter today. guess i should wait now.

I checked the Canadian recall website with my VIN and nothing shows up. Odd as I got letters in the mail for the two campaigns.

it’s not a recall it’s a “Customer Support Program” that’s why it won’t show up as a recall

That's what I thought, but the site indictes it will show service campaigns as well.

    https://www.toyota.ca/toyota/en/owners/recalls

Check the Campaign definitions listed there. Shows all three.

At any rate, the Dealer saw them listed when they ran my VIN.

Always a best bet to call your dealer to confirm.

Well, took the Tacoma into the dealership today and they inspected the frame. Said the frame is good and just needs the CRC application, no replacement. Booked for Monday.

Did you go to a dealership you bought the truck from? Or did you just go to a Toyota dealership close to you?

Any dealer will do it. I brought it to the one I purchased my truck from because it's closest by far.

Is the stuff Toyota coats the frame in, if the truck is up for the inspection and doesn’t need a new frame, better than fluid film or the other DIY options?

I don’t want to put on some gunk that “protects” but basically hides the rust for a few years just because it’s free

My 2005 stock had a frame recall. 6 weeks in a rental but was really able to upgrade the truck with a 2013 engine (39,000miles), 3” bilstein, 17” rims w/ 285 and a new clutch

Just got this letter myself about the CRC application and possible frame replacement. I had a peek myself and my frame is still black showing zero signs of rust other than the odd spot where there is a weld. I'm guessing it's because I wash my truck at least twice a week that there is no rot.

Does anyone know what this CRC application is? Is it just the undercoating that they normally install on new vehicles? Or is this something special? If it's just a rubberized undercoating or a cavity wax type chemical I'm tempted to use a liberal coating of Corroseal (really good rust converter/prevention) and top with some black POR15 as this combo would be a lot better for corrosion prevention than a rubberized coating.

I just received my two letters regarding the frame of my 2012 trd sport. I got the truck about 4 years ago and it already had a sticky black coating on the frame. Is that the coating mentioned that if my frame passes inspection they will spray the same stuff?

It currently had a gooey black coating all over underneath.

Sounds like that's it but I'd take it in regardless. It could be someone already sprayed something else on there...my surmise is because you got a letter that Toyota themselves didn't.

Either way, you definitely want Toyota to look at and document that they looked at your truck for further eligibilty on the second inspection before the 12 years is up

Have my 2011 in right now and frame inspection was good. Wasn’t expecting the next step but they offered to do the coating right now. I figured I was going to have to schedule it but they said they have a kit in stock and willing to do it now. I was torn between getting inspected now or waiting but I caved and decided to be proactive and get it protected before anything happened. I thought about it getting bad but not bad enough to get a new frame. I live in NE Ohio so it will see plenty if road chemicals in the next year or two. I plan on an upgrade soon anyways.

I'm a NE OH owner too, a '14 TRD, and I also received the recall. When I was at the dealer getting an oil change (surprise: about same price as other independent shops) they inspected my frame and told me it was clean and solid, but they wanted to apply the CRC (corrosion resistance coating) system to it. I assumed it would be a spray on coating that covered the entire frame rails, front to back. But it wasn't. The frame section from about the front of the cab to behind the drivers seat apparently is a "C" inside a "C", with a space between them if that makes sense...sort of boxed in. there are some square holes on the outside of the frame rail they used to spray in a cream colored material, then plugged the holes. Also plugged holes in the bottom to prevent dripping out. They used this same material to coat the seam welds that run along the inside of the frames. The material is a semi-liquid / viscous material, cream colored. I've looked on Toyota website trying to find photos etc, of what it's supposed to be but I can't find anything.

When I picked up my truck at the dealer, I did get a glimpse of the paperwork, and it looked like the dealer charged Totota Inc (or NA?) $859 for the work, including the material and plugs.

I'm interested to hear what other's frame treatment look like.

Here are some pics (best I could do laying on the floor of a freezing cold garage)
    P1010532.jpg
    Obviously plugs
    P1010533.jpg
Some of the materials tracing the material overlaps and welds

Again, I hope someone will have something for me to compare it to. Ever better if there is a Toyota tech that could jump in and tell is if this is "correct". Looks pretty sketchy to me.

Yep, that’s what mine looks like. Was somewhat surprised when they told me it was just the middle section and inner only but at least it’s done!

So I called a dealer today and they said my 2015 didn’t qualify for an inspection, even though it was purchased in PA where road salt is heavily used. Guess I gotta DIY with rust protection and stuff
