I have rust spots showing through my rear bumper on an 06 with 117k on it. Ridiculous. Hopefully the inside of the bumper is rusted out completely and needs to be replaced when they do the frame.

My truck is at the dealer getting inspected. I dropped it off today a 7AM and the manager said to leave it there because they have to send pictures of the finding to Toyota corp for them to order the frame. It's currently 1PM and no word from the manager yet. Has anybody gotten approved by Toyota corp? And did they approve it the same day?

I got approved. Parts are ordered and they are working on getting me a rental car. Took a few days, might have been because service manager was out of town but I'm not sure.

Do you know if there is any other option than getting a rental? When I found out my frame was swiss cheese a month ago, I bought a small commuter to drive and parked the truck. Would be nice to be compensated instead of getting a rental. I still need to call to get my truck brought in. What a pain.

Did you get your truck the same day?

They inspected it and failed it the same day if that's what you mean. Within 20 minutes or less probably.

The manager just called, he said they sended the pics and the report at 10am but they still have not gotten an answer. The truck is staying at the dealer with no rental until Toyota corp gives an answer.

Weird. I went in last week and they did the inspection, it failed, and I was sent home to await hearing about the available of parts. Then Toyota corporate got involved without me asking, said that I should be in a rental car, so they had me go back to the dealership where additional pictures were required. The sent those pictures off at about 3:30 pm and were received and responded to within 30 -45 minutes. They said my car was most likely safe to drive and it was my choice if I wanted a rental or not. I said I did. They thought I was concerned about safety but my main reason is that I want the pressure on the dealer to speed up the process whenever possible because they are having to pay for my rental car. I got stuck with a Nissan Frontier, but I can't complain because I figured I'd get stuck in a clown car for the next 3 months.

Just got word from the manager that Toyota corp said my truck is unsafe to drive. They approved giving me a rental but they have not approved the frame replacement yet. I don't know why.

I just got the approval for the frame replacement today. I only owned the truck less than a month so no card or anything. I brought it in for the leaf spring recall and they inspected it and failed it for a hole a little bigger than 10mm. Im at the top of the list so it should be done within a month or 2.

They let you take it back home with you and just call you when they are ready for it?
Did they take pics and send them to Toyota to have them make the decision?

My official inspection appointment is tomorrow morning for mine. I noticed today that there is a hole on the D/S now too right around the area that I had patched already on the P/S. This one is on the outside of the frame rails though where the other was on the inside of the cross member. I'm going to try and get reimbursement as well for the patch work I had done already and the brake lines that I already replaced since they replace them anyway when doing the frame. I'm not going to be getting a rental though because I have a demo through work and bought the truck for camping and hauling my dirt bike

I'll try and post the hot spots that the technician memo points out tomorrow at work. I was slammed on Monday and had no free time

Yes they took pics and submitted everything to Toyota. They said the truck was safe to drive.

My inspection results were submitted today, but we haven't heard back from Toyota yet. I did find out some more information as to why the process has changed. Toyota is cracking down on shady dealers that were replacing frames on trucks that probably didn't need it, to get the warranty work. Apparently, there has been a number of bad claims that got approved and processed. Now, dealerships & technicians have a specific process to follow to get the claims approved first before moving forward to the next step, like obtaining a rental, ordering parts, etc. I think before they were much more lenient with the requirements that the dealership needed to prove/meet. Dealers need to upload pictures of all the parts of the frame that fail the inspection.

Attached is part of the TI (technical inspection) bulletin that shows the spots to look out for, which I believe are the same as the last recalls.

seems odd that there would be many frames replaced at all , because the memo only came out on the 7-17-17. so shady dealers ? replacing frames already that seems odd. not sure i buy that .
