There's frames up north that have been heavily maintained still look new but for the majority it's the trucks in high salt usage areas.

No. They don't touch the hitch. My frame was replaced in January and they used the old hitch. If all continues as is it will rot through soon and transfer to the new frame!!!

I have a 2006 Sequoia... Brought it in to have a leaking steering rack replaced a month ago (just looked again, actually middle of June)... They said "your rear wheel is about to fall off due to frame rust"... I asked if frame settlement would cover - They said (at the time) "Yes, but Toyota has not told us anything yet". At first they said that I needed to remove it from the Dealership. I talked to Service Manager, and he said that was wrong & they will keep it until they hear from Toyota.

THANKS TO THIS FORUM, I found the letter from Toyota, and called the dealer last week (I've been without our truck for well over a month). They said they would inspect, get the info to Toyota, and see if approved. I called today, and they said Frame Replacement has been approved (As it well should be - I felt sick after seeing that frame that holds rear wheel on was literally about to fall off... I had pulled our camper, and been hauling 6 kids around in it).

They are saying they have no rentals/loaners available now, but I am top of list, whatever that means. I told them I'd like something similar to what we have.

So my questions for you are:

Does the dealership that frame replacement happens at important? Their initial response (about removing vehicle from dealership) gives me some pause, and it's a smallish Dealership in Central Maine. Wondering if I should have it hauled to a larger dealership in Southern Maine (large by Maine standards). Maybe a smaller dealer has advantages? Not sure.

Should I push more about getting a loaner/rental now? We've been without our truck for close to a month and half. Actually had to make other arrangements on our own for now and it hasn't been cheap. Is a call to Toyota in order?

I've not been able to find any other forums specific to Sequioas so apologies for posting here (I could Lie and say it's a Tacoma :) But we are all in the same boat here). This has been a bit of a nightmare for us, and this forum has helped with finally getting this resolved.

    Thanks!

Do you have a rusty ass hitch on your truck?? How bad is it?

you should mention it at the dealer and let me know if they do replace it.

My hitch was installed by U-Haul after purchase. It's only a couple years old so it's good. I would definitely stir the shit pot for ya if it was rusted out.

I'm glad to hear you got something out of this whole ordeal. Appreciate the thanks.
I would definitely call Toyota. 1800-331-4331. Explain to them your situation and they should help.
A month without a vehicle after they took yours is unacceptable.
I didn't pay much attention to the section of the settlement but cost for a rental or however your solution for transportation should qualify you for reimbursement. You would have to look over the long form notice.
The moment they took your vehicle you should have been provided a loaner.
Depending on the service from the people, sometimes a small dealership can be good. My dealer was completely unaware of the settlement but after Toyota called them up they stepped up in a hurry.

My dealer didn't have any Tacoma's on the lot for loaners so I opted to just wait. I called up there around 5 and they said they were supposed to get one in this evening and would have it ready in AM.
Seeings how you've been without a vehicle for a month and a half, I would definitely push for a loaner.
Actually, I wouldn't do a damn thing with that dealer till I contacted Toyota customer service by phone.

ok i went to large dealership today for the inspection . tec never even put on lift just crawled under took pictures of the rusted out frame area and said my truck qualifies to be gowned , can have a rental . i said, i need a truck ,didn't have a truck to give me, he, said they stopped doing Leander trucks , but would try to get me one soon 4-6 weeks maybe, what ever that means. i did not leave truck at dealership.i need a truck. i think i will call Toyota customer service fri. 8/4/17 tell them what happened . the tec said before they can do the frame replacement work, a special left had to be installed? so i ask how long did he think before the frame replacement could be done ? he said up to a year (wtf) is that all about , i ask so i get a rental for a year , service man said yes.

If it was bad and they documented it, and let you leave without signing some form of liability waiver, then I would definitely call up customer service.
It's a liability issue now. And the liability is on them. That will prompt them to take proper course of action.
