I am more curious if they have had to purchase insurance for this in Canada and the United States. Who is the insurance company that approved or approves the claims???
Why is it that Toyota gets to contract themselves or Toyota franchisees to complete the repairs at a profitable margin??? I am sure most of you would prefer a 15000 dollar cheque witch in most cases is the arox value of the repairs. My dealership principal here told me that the parts alone are over $8000, my rental was $1993.32, I am guessing approximately $3500-4000 in Mechanic labor, shop fees, fluids and miscellaneous parts.

so far we are at $13493.00 wasted

plus my truck had the CRC coating 1 year before that as well as leaf springs.
leaf springs- parts aprox. $400, mechanic labour aprox 150.00, Leaf Spring Total: $550.00
CRC coating supplies I have no idea what that shit costs but for fun we will say $150.00 bux plus the shop labor for that where they wash and remove all the dirt and heavy scale before they undercoat your truck. Lol :poking: lets say it was only $250.00. Oh and my rental too!!! Toyotas leaf springs were back ordered and mine were broken on both sides. my truck rental was $408.00 for a total of $1358.00

as well I had it at another dealership 2 weeks before that and they did not remove the scale off my truck before they did the CRC campaign on it so add $400 and I had a rental for that as well @ $210.00 but my truck only had 1 broken leaf spring and because only the driver side (gas tank side) was completely broken. truck was still safe to drive and leaf springs were not required yet?? lol Total of $610.00

Toyota spent a grand total of $16011.00 wasted on my truck in 1 year repairing my truck of defects when it had 254000 KM on it
they contracted themselves to do the repairs so they could gain some of the money back instead of writing you guys (the victims of a lot of BS)

personally I would have rather had the $16011.00 to put towards a Ford F-150, or even $15000.

    WTF TOYOTA???

So by contracting themselves an there affiliates to do the repairs they get your 15g back that they were paid out on an insurance claim???
    is that Insurance Fraud???

If it failed and NEVER was replaced this is a very unique situation.. I would take it to a dealer first and see what they say.

You got any pics? I would think it depends on the severity and location of the damage.
They could say it was 'altered' and may cause a stink.

According to Toyota's service history for the vehicle it failed inspection but there is no record of replacement. My guess is the small dealer that I bought it from had it at the dealer (which was almost across the street) for some reason and it was inspected. Since it was not registered to an individual Toyota would not replace the frame. Rather than doing the right thing and make sure it was repaired properly the small dealer did the quick fix and welded plates over the holes on both sides of the frame. Then coated the frame so it would not be easily noticed.

I don't have any pics at the moment. The areas are the sections of frame next to the catalytic converters that many people have problems with.

I am thinking FRAUD from the dealer that you bought it from.

@SHTTACO contact Toyota Corporate. Have your information ready as far as VIN, Dealer it was purchased from, and any information pertaining to the issue.
They will give you a case number and will be documented. I sent emails with pictures at first then contacted them by phone. You need to HURRY. You're past the 12 year from first use deadline so now all you have is the 12 months from Final Order.
@cliffyk This man knows his stuff. He helped me with info and clarification about The Settlement.

    Good luck :fingerscrossed:

Agreed. If a previous owner did the work then it's a crapshoot, but, if the dealer did it, then I would not set foot there again without contacting Corporate.

They likely have some sort of corporate liability insurance--if, or to what extent, it reimburses Toyota for costs related to this settlement are not something I know, or am likely to ever know.

As to the $15,000 number, there is no such amount specified in the settlement agreement. Under the agreement Toyota is to treat or replace frames on eligible vehicles--that is a cost to Toyota regardless of the mechanism by which it is done.

The $15k per vehicle number appeared only as an estimate, selected by someone to attempt to calculate Toyota's potential liability in fulfilling the terms of the agreement, that is how the $3.4B ($3.6B in some sources) estimated total cost came about.

The BW v. Toyota settlement does not specify any dollar amounts...

Do we know if the "small dealer" referred to by the OP (of this sub-thread) was a Toyota dealer, or just some used car lot? If the latter then the repairs become a whole other issue...

Thanks for all of the help. Unfortunately the dealer where I got it was a smaller mom & pop dealer not Toyota. The situation is what it is. I'm just wondering if when I have it inspected Toyota I going to automatically decline it for replacement because the frame was reinforced.

I bought my truck through an used car lot last October then brought it to my local Toyota dealer to have them go through it and now I'm getting the new frame. You should bring yours in

i think you should be good , now if the dealer wants to get it approved with no road blocks , the dealer will take one pitcher of the frame were its got the one 10mm hole , not the repaired area?

That testimony was Feb 24, 2010. Do you think things have changed for the better, gotten worse or are the same in the 7 years since?

More like stayed the same. Toyota has known about their crappy frame design for years. They continue to use the same practices and design flaws that trap corrosive materials between the frame layers. these areas are near impossible to clean or treat properly due to this design flaw.
I believe that statement was regarding all recalls and hopefully service advisories for all Toyota vehicles. The vehicles he is talking directly about were manufactured in the same time frame. mine was put into service 03/29/2006 frame should have failed on 05/11/15 when they covered it up. officially failed 11/04/16.

If you have to keep publishing service advisories that is a sign that product design, quality of materials needs to be improved .

    MR. Toyoda says
"I myself, as well as Toyota, am not perfect. At times we do find defects. But in such situations, we always STOP. Strive to understand the problem and make changes to improve further. In the name of the company its long standing tradition and pride. We never run away from our problems or pretend we don't notice them. By making continuous improvements we aim to continue offering even better products for society."

The last I checked almost every year of the Toyota Tacoma had a frame recall or service advisory that said Toyota has received reports that certain model year ____-_____ vehicles operated in cold climate areas with high road salt usage , excessive corrosion may be exhibit on vehicles frame. Toyota investigated these reports and determined that some vehicles may not have adequate corrosion resistant protection, this combined with prolonged exposure to road salts and environmental factors may contribute to the development of excessive corrosion on the frame of some vehicles. This condition is un related to and separate from normal surface rust witch is commonly found on metallic surfaces, after some years of usage and/or exposure to the environment.

I didn't think about that. I had just assumed it was a Toyota dealer.

    Hi guys/gals.

Just joined yesterday and came across this thread about the frame issue. Would appreciate some guidance. I purchased my 2010 access cab just yesterday (yep, found this thread the same day). I knew there was some rust underneath that probably needed attention when I bought it, but after reading this thread it has me very concerned. After further review of the underside, I realize that it is a significant amount of rust for a 2010 vehicle with only 28K on it.
My question is what do I do now (if anything)? Am I eligible for the free frame inspection? If so, do I call the dealer or do I wait until after the settlement?
I realize that it is too late to join the class action, but am I disqualified from any repairs in the future?
I am 2nd owner and was able to access all maintenance records from the past owner. The only thing I saw there that may pertain to this was ""R and R Spring".
    Any help would be appreciated.
    TIA

    Welcome to Tacoma World.
Yes, you're covered and what you need to do now is call a local Toyota Dealer to schedule a Frame Inspection. The Frame Settlement has already been finalized. I don't believe there was any Application to be a part of it, just an option to remove yourself from the Class Action.
I recommend you visiting http://www.toyotaframesettlement.com and looking over the details. Knowledge is key.
