I would make them put it in writing that even with a rusted out frame and broken leafs, it's safe to drive. That way your next of kin will have documentation for a lawsuit.

As far as getting a rental truck, do what one TW member did. Load up all your tools in the bed of your truck just before you take it in. Tell them that you're gonna need to transfer all your work tools into the rental. There's no way they're going to put you in a Camry if you do that.

    It worked too...Lol.
They didn't have a Tacoma on the lot so I had to wait a day and a half.
If the tools don't work then telling them you carry pressurized tanks will.

They shouldn't have let you leave...
Toyota Corp was not happy at all when my dealer let me leave with my truck in the condition it was in.
Unlike these frames, the leaf springs ARE a safety recall. The argument was that the leafs can break and rub/puncture the fuel tank, causing a possibility of fire/explosion.

If you have anymore problems with your dealer call 800-331-4331.

    "Sure, whatcha gotta cut?"
"Oh nothing, I'm taking my Taco in for a frame inspection."

I dropped my truck off this morning for the frame replacement. They had a 2017 Tacoma SR5 4wd ready to go. I didn't ask for a truck.. but it was nice of them!

I got 28mpg on my trip summary with the Taco loaner. I think it was 48 or so miles.

My Camry was a v6 so there really wasn't a big change of gas mileage.

Dealership called me today, said my truck should be finished with the frame swap by the end of the week. Dropped it off around JULY 20th. Have had 3 rental cars since, a 2017 Frontier, a 2017 Durango, and a 2017 Tahoe. When i dropped truck off I gave a list of items I’d consider replacing: Leaking axle seal, parking break adjustment, front brakes, U-Joints, a weird intermittent hesitation in acceleration. When he called he said front brakes were fine, couldn’t replicate the acceleration hesitation and
there was a possible front driver side wheel bearing going out but should wait to be certain but I did need1 U-joint, the parking brake adjustment, the axle seal, and there was a broken wheel stud (this I thought was weird because I usually do all my own work and have never noticed this). I was quoted 690$ for this work. I argued that the parking brake adjustment should at least be free because of the frame replacement procedure but no luck.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure the parking brake is self adjusting. You just have to use it regularly.

There are some items that you should replace while everything thing is apart.
