Question for people who had theirs replaced, any idea if frame separation counts or is it just a hole? I was looking under mine today and there are several spots where the overlapping frame rails are peeling away from each other, some spots it’s at least a 1/4 to a 1/2 inch gap. I will try to post a picture later.

Also, some of the drain holes are definitely getting larger, one on the passenger side is pretty big compared with the drivers side. I don’t know how big they should be on a new frame.

get some pictures. The requirements are 10mm perforation, the drainhole is probably what would fail you.

you know if someone from toyota comes out to inspect a bad frame or do they just take the dealers word ? Do they chuck the old frame or does it go somewhere ?

No one from toyota came to approve mine, they sent in pictures and were approved the next day.

I believe the dealer is responsible for recycling them as scrap. from what I've seen and heard they can be nice and chop off the sliders for you and give them to you, or charge you the extra labor to chop them off since they need to be off to lift the cab off the frame

It was separated so much that it probably counted as a 10mm perforation

So just recently I had the frame replaced on my 2008 Tacoma. I was at the dealer this past weekend for maintenance and they told me I still may get a call to have the CRC under coating done. I thought the CRC under coating was only for those Tacomas that didn't get a new frame. Anyone else hear anything about this??

That was only being done if you passed the frame inspection.. A new frame or the spray

When I had bought my tacoma I had my frame sprayed. It definitley helped alot of it stay in good shape. The weep holes and the frame welds are killing it thru

Yea. It was the dealer that set it up. The top of the line undercoat is actually advertised as a sound deadener since its thicker than the rust proof coat. Also took an engine rust protection coat that was like a thick tack gel. I saw how my mothers landcruiser was eaten alive by rust. It worked wonders. Outside of the shitty metal bolts toyota uses my bay doesnt have any real rust 8 years later as that gel coat hardens and flakes off.

Forget engine detailing though as that coat is pretty tack and will hold dust. But better than rust.
