The dealer told me what they are getting reimbursed for my replacement now I don't know how much they spent but toyota is reimbursing them close to 11g. He said if I were to of paid for this job outright it would of been around 15g

Had my passenger side muffler hanger fall off, and it was pretty clear that the reason was that the frame around it was rusting out from the inside.

Well, the Toyota dealer agreed (and found another hole rusting out), so it looks like I'm getting a new frame. They're getting approval from Toyota and will let me know when they can schedule a loaner vehicle.

(Kinda dislike the dealer, but it's the only one within a reasonable distance of me)

Yeah, they told me that I could get the stabilizer bushings replaced for just parts.

Could someone in the know please clarify something WRT the time frame that applies here. On the website:

    http://www.toyotaframesettlement.com/

it says settlement applies to vehicles, the longer of, 12 years from date of purchase or 1 year after final order and final judgement, and then this:

"On May 21, 2017, the Court issued its Final Order and Final Judgment approving the settlement."

But then it says right after that:

"In June, 2017, appeals were filed to the settlement. While this will delay full implementation of the settlement, the Frame Inspection and Replacement Program is being implemented at this time."

Q: does that 2nd statement change the prior final order/judgement timetable at all? Looked over the website and here and can't find anything. My truck is an 05 and out of the 12 year window so the 1 year from that final order date is up soon (May 21). I saw no obvious problems last time I inspected but going to do it again this weekend (while putting in an AAL) more carefully and want to know how much time I have. TIA.

Yes thank you I know it is eligible and what to do. I was asking what the specific cut-off date is given the following statement:

"In June, 2017, appeals were filed to the settlement. While this will delay full implementation of the settlement, the Frame Inspection and Replacement Program is being implemented at this time."

Is it still May 21 2019* (1 year past final order/judgement) or has that been pushed out due to the appeals? I gather no one knows.

    edit: 2018.

Yes of course it is May 2019* due to it being an 05, the question is does the fact that this is under appeal and it says on the lawyer's website that:

"this will delay full implementation of the settlement"

does that push the May 2019* date back or not until the appeal is resolved?

    edit: sorry typo 2018.

Not sure. I would have your frame inspected before then just to be safe.

Yeah that's what I plan on doing. I will be installing a 3-leaf AAL kit this weekend and plan to do thorough inspection then. I did one when I installed Bilstein 6112/5160's last spring and saw nothing that bad. I live way up in the SW CO mountains and getting to a dealer is a hassle.

According to the class action settlement:
    • The coverage offers the later of 12 years from the Date of First Use (DOFU) or one year from the date of Final Approval. (5/21/2017)
Going by this statement all Tacoma trucks part of this settlement is covered until 5/21/18 (one year from the date of Final Approval. (5/21/2017), regardless of your service date so Toyota is doing what the lawsuit stated they have to do.

My "in service date" is 10/3/2006, so I have until 10/3/2018 to have it inspected. You need to have it inspected by 5/21/18 or 12 years from the in-service date, whichever is the later.

Sorry, typo above. May 21 2018 (week from Monday!) is cut off date for my truck per original final order. The question is, the settlement is being appealed and, as I have posted already several times my question is will that CHANGE the date in the "final judgement/approval". If it is appealed it is not "final" until the appeal is resolved.

    The lawyers website says this:

"this will delay full implementation of the settlement"

does that push the May 2018 date back or not until the appeal is resolved? Please do respond if you can answer this simple question. TIA.

Common sense says have it inspected by 5/21/18, rulings are always appealed but like the line after says,"The Frame Inspection and Replacement Program is being implemented at this time", so that tells owners to follow the instructions given and not wait and hope it's extended.

You stated a few posts ago, that you will bring your truck in this week so why are your panties in such a bunch, that you are asking members here not to respond to your question? I'm not being paid to be a lawyer and was just trying to help you out, so why don't you ask a lawyer if you are so worried or maybe better yet use a little common sense.

Get it inspected. At least with my dealer, it was free to get it looked at.

Jeez. Maybe you should work on reading comprehension. I am not "taking it in" this week unless I have to, but I am doing suspension work on it myself this weekend. I will inspect it myself, again, which I did the first time a year ago and found nothing too bad. But I live far from the nearest dealership and was asking a simple question which it seems no one can answer about whether the deadline date in 11 days might get pushed out due to the appeal. Thanks for trying though.

Well, I finally got around to bringing in my '07 Tacoma for the frame inspection and a couple of other recall/extension of warranty items. Toyota authorized everything, so now I'm in for a long wait until they get all the parts and actually do it. But when it's done, I'll have a new frame, new leaf springs, replaced propeller shaft differential (propeller shaft? Who knew I had one of the rare amphibious Tacos!), and replaced spiral cable (the airbag thing). They also discovered that I'd been driving around with a broken right front shock absorber! Yikes!

Anyway, I already miss my truck, and so does my dog - I can't have him in the loaner vehicle they gave me. But for the next couple of months, I'll be stylin' in a brand new Tacoma, fully loaded. Very different from my little gen 2 Taco!

My truck is still considered driveable, so I'm in for the same long wait before they get parts and everything scheduled, but I still have my truck in the meantime.

Kinda wish I had my truck during the wait. It's killin' me to go off somewhere without my dog - he goes everywhere with me, loves the truck. I asked the dealer if I should pick up my truck for the duration, but there are some safety things that they want to do when the frame replacement takes place - easier to do things all at once, and less expensive for me!

Plus, you just know they're going to try to upsell me to a new Taco when my old one is all fixed up. "Gee, Steve, now that your truck has all this new stuff in it, we can give you a great trade-in...". I'm not going to fall for it. :)

    Lots of fun stuff
This forum laid the ground work for my totally replaced frame! I was worried about not meeting the requirements... I'd been periodically wire brushing my frame annually and painting it with Por-15... fortunately I met it in a place I'd never had expected. The inspector knew to punch through in a place that looked perfect on the outside. Apparently water sits behind that spot and rots the frame from the inside out. If anyone's interested, I'll upload a picture of the spot that worked for me.
