Yeah there are a lot of things the industry could do to make their products better and last longer, but because the mighty dollar and the shareholders make most decisions, all that idealistic crap goes flying out the window.

I bought my '06 used, it was a steal but still it was used. The first 40k by the original owner were driven in the SF Bay Area (salty air). So there's some frame rust and *by what I can see* it's just on the surface, for now. I was hoping to drive this thing 300k+ into the ground, but at a rate of 10k/year that might not be possible before the frame is rendered unsafe by rust. We will see... mine's garaged at night and I live in Sacramento CA (no road salt) so at least we have that much going for us.

There was a member on here that galvanized his frame or something. And another or maybe the same guy ran some zinc box on it. I have undercoated my frame and have kept up with it and it looks like new. Other things should cause my truck to fail before the frame for a 300 undercoat job in 250k miles. Might not look like new at 250k, but I should be dealing with other problems. When I resell my truck I expect a premium though for the extra care I have taken on the frame...food for thought I guess considering that most others will have some rust issues if left factory painted.

 

Im guessing you guys didn't buy the stainless steel frame option when you were signing the papers.

 

Rumor has it the Mayan Edition doesn't come out till 2012...
