I’ve been debating getting a TRD pro skid plate for the filter trap door, but it’s hard to justify $400 when the OR skid comes off easy enough with 4 bolts. What do you think of the Fumoto valve? I’ll be doing all my own oil changes every 5k/6months too

The TRD Pro skid offers much more protection than OEM, which is basically just a splash guard. The TRD covers back to the oil drain plug which protects the Fumoto valve while providing access to it with a hole.

Very pleased with fumoto. I got the long nipple and the entire length is above the skid plate so I see zero risk of it getting struck. I wanted the pro skid plate anyway and the diy aspect made it easier to justify.

BTW, I ordered my skid from Joseph Airport Toyota. $350, free shipping, no sales tax. Was packaged fine and fit like a glove. Part# PTR6035190

LED interior, license plate, and fog lights. More to come.
Reading the thread on here today where a guy couldn't get his skid plates off because the nuts that are tack welded to the crossmember were busted off after the dealer did his free oil change was exactly the scenario I thought of when I decided to not take them up on their free oil changes.

I was fortunate to get my OEM TRD Skid for $306 to include shipping in Nov 2021.

During my next oil change, I'll add the fumoto valve and fit test/check the aluminum housing (I'm still not keen on using the housing).

I got the correct size filters so hopefully this next oil change, I don't make as much of a mess as last time on the skid plate.

I got a knock off version of the TRD skid plate for around $260. its basically the sage construction but has no logos, the paint is plain whitish silver and the edges were a little rough but easy to file off. It does provide more protection and is easy to access everything for an oil change. I had a Fumoto valve in my old Jeep and it was great. I just haven't got one for the Tacoma yet. I'm looking at the new ones with the nipple to connect a hose. Do you have any experience with the long or short nipple? how close to the plate do they hang down?

Make sure they explain the whole procsss to you. They tried to get me to sign the papers saying I’d pay for the $200 service literally two days after my plan expired. They made no mention my plan expired or I had to pay

As the stealership dudes never cut the oil filter open and inspect it, I did at after 15K mi, oil being in for 5K. Found small non-ferrous particles, big enough to see with the naked eye.
Will check after 20K mi and see if it still sheds debris. May be the last debris from the break-in... maybe not.
Lessons learned: Always ask for the oil filter at the stealerships and inspect yourself!

I am only 5,000 actual miles per year.
VVT-i engines demand pristine clean oil.
Oil change every 3~5k miles, or 6 months, whichever comes first.
