I have a 2019 trd off road, 12 fj cruiser and a 1st gen tacoma... I love my Toyota's so much but as time progresses it is really frustrating how Ford is making a way superior ifs in this new Bronco, Jeep has a solid axle and now a fucking diesel... WTF!!! I'm seriously coming out of alignment with Toyota vehicles. Ill always have my 1st gen and the FJ but damn, i don't think i can justify buying another new tacoma or 4runner moving forward... Its sad.

If off-road capability is your top priority, go get a Wrangler or a Bronco. My 4runner will get to 99% of the places those vehicles will go, and is genuinely enjoyable to drive to and from the trails. And, if it's as good as my '03 was, I will probably never have to do anything other than routine maintenance. Everything has pros and cons.

Toyota won’t do anything until their sales start to drop. I told my fiancé all this too when she bought her 2021 4Runner. Reliability and resale value still pushed her to make forward with the decision. I come to wonder what would happen if these new Front Locker rigs Bronco and Colorado, dare I say H3 etc. end up just as reliable. I tend to doubt that claim but it could happen, technology is always getting better and we’re always trying to reduce meantime between failure. I wouldn’t be surprised if we see nothing new from Toyota until they lose their market position.

So sell your shit and move on lol. Life is too short. Why whine on a forum when you can be driving a Jeep tomorrow or something.

For me, it's not even about reliability because imo ifs sucks. Its about progression. I have owned 3 jeeps and now 6 Toyota's. Jeep keeps doing what makes sense and Toyota keeps doing nothing new. Toyota makes the best shit everywhere but here and I'm losing faith that it will change. I have a loaded down 2019 and it doesn't even have a remote start. wtf! i live in the northeast. I have to walk in snow to start my truck. Its just getting lame. I never thought I would ever be this over Toyota's future.

you're right but its like trading something that could be cool for something that is not but works.. That is the point and the problem.

You want something new from Toyota? Build it. You want a front locker, rear locker or both? Build it. Want one with diesel? Drop one in. Don’t wait for some reason to pop up which forces Toyota to compete with Bronco, Jeep or some other contraption that makes you envious,... build it. Broncos and Jeeps are still fancy domestic creations. You want your Toyota to compete or be a class of its own or be on par with the mechanical competition? Build it. Drive it’s value through the roof.

For sure. I want a 3 link on my 3rd gen but without a kit im not willing to undertake that type of fab from scratch. Maybe next year something will be available.

The 2020 + have the remote connect that can be started from anywhere. You were just one year too early. That’s a bummer.

Do not be too impressed... The Diesel is a fiat diesel with horrible reliability.
