So my gear box will NOT fit into “bassackwards” car?

The USA Tacoma 6 speed is the same as the Aussie Land Cruiser Prado 6 speed.

Hi all. Is there any reason NOT to install a snorkel to my Ute? I’m sure it will help with cold air intake.

I dont believe so since it uses a pilot bearing, and the US 1GR-FE doesnt have a place for it

If you do, buy a good one. With the supercharger, the piping on the cheap ones sometimes tries to collapse if youre running a good amount of boost

That’s a bummer. Same engine but slightly different still. Are you having problems with your gearbox which is why your looking into the 5sp we have here?

Yes it wants to grind when shifting from 3rd to 4th under boost. If i try to do it even remotely quickly, it grinds. I am running 85w140 dino oil in it, and that seems to have helped quite a bit, but it still happens occaisionally. Just trying to get my ducks in a row for when the time comes for replacement, because i dont plan on ever getting rid of the truck

Ah ok. Well it’s a shame our 5sp won’t fit cause they are a strong box. I tow 2.5-3.5 tonne sometimes even though my Ute is only rated to 2.25t. Is it possible to change the center shaft to suit your engine or not really?

Ahhh i know im really disappointed, id love to have a five speed in it. First gear is so low in my 6spd that it would make more sense to have a 5spd.

Not sure on swapping the center shaft to suit my engine. Based on what someone posted in here earlier, it sounds like if there is a pilot bearing, there needs to be a place on the crank shaft to accomodate that. Not sure if i'd be able to change out a backing plate or somehting on the rear of the motor, or if the whole crank would need to be different. Also not sure if i could just cut the input shaft tip off and run it without one lol (this sounds janky af, but just curious if it'd work in theory- it's not likely something i'd do)

Yeah the gearing in the US 6spd manual sucks for towing, the auto tows so much better.
1st gear is too tall, 6th gear too small and stuff in between...
Also the throwout bearing design is garbage! Be happy you have a 5spd, if that trans was available over here I might have thought twice about getting an auto

So just to remind me, you need to have the pilot shaft yes? I’ll ring the trans guy today and find out if that’s something he can do.

I would need something without a pilot bearing/input shaft, or id need a way to modify it to make it work.

Here is the picture of my input shaft from my RA60F 6spd. It does not have a pilot bearing, so im trying to find something that would work without a pilot bearing. If there is some way to swap input shafts, i wouldnt be opposed to that, just curious if it's even possible

No worries. I’ll call him today and I’ll see what he says. It’s the same guy who built my box. It’s 8am here and he opens at 9am. Leave it with me.
