    Fusion reactors don't "runaway," in fact it's the exact opposite...

    thats why I said or they use more energy than they produce - the runaway I was referring to was fusion bombs, I was trying to say that the sweet spot in between the two has been unobtainable despite nearly a century of work and trillions spent

    That's a bit misleading on the fusion bomb part as well because fusion bombs (hydrogen bombs for example) require fission bombs to detonate. A fusion reactor would not replicate those conditions at all because fusion does not create any sort of self sustaining chain reaction. Maybe I'm completely misunderstanding you, I'm which case I'd ask for your source regarding this phenomenon in a fusion reactor. I don't disagree that they're currently inefficient, but I just don't see your other point about a runaway/bomb within a fusion reactor.
