I’m a layman. I watch the tail gas units, splitting C5’s and lighter. Question. What exactly is an oxygenate, and why would it be bad, in say, NC4? Serious question. I have an ORU unit for this purpose. (Oxygenate Removal Unit.) It’s basically a set of dehydration towers. Im just curious what it is, and why it’s undesirable. For curiosities sake.
EDIT: This ORU is specifically for NC4. The only answer I’ve had is that the customer wants a t this way. Just trying to learn

When you say greener to produce do you mean the vehicle? Or the fuel?

Eh. Or it's a business choice since hydrogen cars are a long solved problem, and there are regions that require local zero emissions vehicles.

Not true to all of the above. It's not at all green to produce, and a highly volatile gas is definitely not safer than a moderately flammable liquid.

Ahhhh, that's why there are so many people on earth. They justify the need to produce so much food that there is reason to grow enough to feed them, that fertilizer is necessary. Then there is a reason to refine the amount of crude that gets refined.

    He's talking about electrolysis
so RBOB is the main blending component in gasoline and the main traded gasoline product on commodities markets. RBOB is intended to be blended with an oxygenate (ethanol) to produce a finished gasoline product

Safer in a vehicle than an EV battery pack or gasoline tank on board.

After pondering what’s been said in this thread, I’m not so sure of that. Hydrogen being the tiniest element, I can understand how it would be hard to keep from leaking, then pump it up to 10,000psi to get the needed density, damn. That alone is quite a challenge to overcome.

Well the tanks have been designed to withstand this and have the needed safety features . I've seen tanks tested and built a fuel cell golf cart with a concrete tank. Now they use carbon nylon tanks. If they do leak hydrogen instantly dissipates once it hits the air. Gasoline on the other hand. Well ask JAy Leno.

You should watch the video I posted not too far back. The cell is a solved problem, but getting hydrogen efficiently isn't - I believe 2024 Japan will start creating "red" hydrogen. The biggest benefits are that they will run industries (like steel plants) that can't run on electricity but have to have fuel, and that their are many places in the world where chargers may never be installed or will be inadequate (remember that Toyota supplies cars and trucks all over the world)

Sort of. Look at diesel electric trains. Its more efficient to generate electricity and run electric motors than to have a diesel locomotive. Same with the Chevy Volt.

Honestly surprised more people aren't all about EVs and at home solar. How is this not seen as a major selling point?

I'd do solar in a second. I'm surrounded by trees though.

Yup, agree. Totally depends on the application.

When gas hit $9 a gallon i was all for it, even at just over $6 i still am, but some have a "From my cold dead hands" mentality about ICE.
