Toyota installed an aftermarket lift kit from amazon instead of TRD on ordered truck.

Yes, good point. If the dealer caused the tss to malfunction from the work they did, you'd think corporate would have some leverage about getting it resolved. OP may need to contact them again and explain.

That’s actually not a bad angle. I also forgot this was a lease, and having never leased I’m not up to speed on how the contracts work regarding aftermarket stuff. But the “safety equipment not working” seems like it has potential for traction.

Lease termination requires the lessee to pay the agreed costs upfront to exit the lease. Example, on a 3 year lease he would have to pay all three years upfront plus any taxes and fees.

Sounds like they pulled a fast one
I was thinking the same at first, but the combination of what sounds like a shady dealer and a bunch of excited signatures on things that weren’t read might mean OP is fked.

Well, the truck is under warranty and the dealer installed "non compatible parts" or parts that would interfere with the TSS, which voided a safety feature of the truck or made it not work. I think another call to Toyota's corporate office would help, but it's really an uphill battle. I'm so glad my truck doesn't have that TSS crap.

doesn't it sound like a Deal that's just to good to be True?
read like, researched the TRD lift kit cost is $1250, then you go ask the Dealer to add on the kit, which came out to $1200? I mean I would have jumped on it too, thinking Dealer parts discount and Free labor to close the new truck sale.

I learned something real valuable here. Gotta get the quote with parts lists, man, that's a shady deal and possibly...

I already contacted Toyota. They said it is between me and the dealer. To clarify on the lift etc., you add the packages, Tech package, etc. and that increases your price. You basically are renting the vehicle until the end of the lease and all of those parts are what make up the price. So, ya, I think my payment went up like $50 or something and included the lift kit. The paperwork said lift kit, and I did read everything. Like I said, even the Toyota parts only said Running Boards, Etc. instead of listing part numbers etc,. They just raise the price of the vehicle by the price of the parts.

Not too good to be true if its a rental on those parts. Again, I get what you are saying but there was not any labor on anything which sounds to good to be true as well but included in the price.

You should stack another spacer on top of the one they installed.

Just drive the truck as is dude. If you hang on this you'll hate the truck until the lease is up. Truck does look really good.

If this is the kit you think you purchased, it might very well be in your Toyota app. My app shows all of my port options. I know that the lift kit is dealer installed only, but with the information in the link above you should be able to make your case. Sue them in small claims Court where the jurisdictional limit is usually up to $3,500.00 they cannot use an attorney in small claims court. Press your case. Based on the link above, I think you can show you were scammed.

If this is true, "I had another dealership look at it and they said it was unsafe and to take it back to Toyota" how did the other dealer let you drive off in an unsafe vehicle? They would normally document this in the service history. Did they ask you to sign a waiver?

Does your state require inspections on safety tech?

I would be more worried about this than aftermarket steps that the dealer owns.

I guess we just learned the harsh lesson that driving a vehicle off the lot means you accepted delivery, and you should never accept delivery without inspecting the work you paid for.

I never inspect my rental cars when I rent them.

When I get my oil changed I always check oil level, make sure oil cap is back on, housekeeping in the engine, and make sure oil drain plug torqued correctly with new washer.

how do you know that they replace the filter?

I’ve read several stories on this forum in the second gen section of filters not getting replaced. Now.. you can’t even tell.

Even better question: how does one verify a new washer was installed under the plug? But I digress…

Because the lift was dealer installed I had to bring the truck back the next day, so the photo was taken the day of the delivery, and a week later I took the new photo in the same spot as the first photo so that everyone could see a clear before and after on the exact same terrain etc. as for the dealership I took it to who said it was not safe, they advised me to take it to the dealership who put it on and said they wouldn't touch it. Exactly why i fear my warranty etc. will be voided as soon as anything happens. Nothing has even happen yet and they are already telling me they wont look at it. Also, the dealership I purchased it at was an hour away from where i live and would take it for work. I did not have any intention of ever taking it back to that dealership again. There are no state inspections that would know anything about the TSS system or collision avoidance. Other than that the lift is legal I think. Probably not the fog lights now that someone mentioned it.
