Toyota installed an aftermarket lift kit from amazon instead of TRD on ordered truck.

Interesting, my app does say what options I have. 2T All Weather, 6B TRD Shift Knob, E5 Exhaust Tip, FE State Emissions, LG LED Headlights, MF Mudguards, OF TRD Premium Off Road Package, T7 Tailgate Emblem "YA Black on a Black Truck makes so much sense", TP Technology Package...

It does not list anything that I ordered on the vehicle.

I noticed the photo of the kit you used as an example was from Treasure Coast Toyota's eBay site. Is that the dealership involved or did you just use the kit from their site to show as example. I ask because that's my dealer!

This amazes me too. We all have cameras with voluminous storage in our pockets. So why not take 30 seconds to snap walk around pics on rental, then again on return. Takes practically no effort to hang on to them for a week then delete after the charges clear.

Even if you take "full coverage," it protects you from cleaning charges or fuel in/fuel out errors.

That's because you didn't order a vehicle at all. The dealership found one close to what you wanted, slapped on the stuff you said you wanted and gave it to you. The only option on that list that 100% comes on a factory truck are the LED headlights, everything else is port or dealer added.

Photo was just from Google to avoid pasting the Toyota press release but that dealership seems like they know what they are taking about at least.

They actually do. Just as an example my deal also included running boards, and my We Owe just said "Running Boards" same as yours. When I brought up that the We Owe should specify exactly which running boards, my salesman said within 2 days when your deal paperwork gets processed the girl who handles the We Owes will contact you. She will help you select any of the OEM running boards you want and arrange to have them installed. My Tacoma was the second vehicle I'd purchased from them in 2 years, they hadn't screwed me over with that sale or the service, so I decided to take the salesperson's word for how their process worked. Sure enough, by the 3rd day after delivery I got the call. I gave her the OEM part number of the step rails I wanted, she said no problem, we will order them today, they will be here in the morning. She made an appoint for me for the next day to have them installed and all went as promised. I realize this could just have easily gone the way your We Owe went, but I relied on my previous experience with the dealer and fortunately it all turned out well. If you need to force your dealership to comply I have to agree with the folks who have indicated it would probably cost you more in legal fees than the $1,200 it would cost to fix your lift kit.

Dealerships have different kits . One is the chepo version and the other Toyota one . It’s always best to get everything in writing and prices up front .At this point I would just stick with what they gave you and not put another dime into it . Hopefully they will let you return the vehicle with the kit . Most leases you will need to return the vehicle stock or they might charge you a fee for them taking the parts off.

I'm confused. This is a lease, and the TSS is faulty; where in your paperwork does it warn you that your chosen options may invalidate manufacture-installed safety options? That, on it's own, should be sufficient for breaking the lease.

@corymiiller post your paperwork OP. Just blur any personal info with the phones editing tools. Might be easier for all of us to understand where they shafted you and how you could go about it.

Seemed you had dealer installed bunch of stuffs on your Tacoma as part of the purchase, there's should be a supplement contract specified what to be done on the truck at the time of delivery or after the delivery. You might have not asked the dealer to specified in the contract "EXACTLY" what to be done in the parts in labor to your truck. If in the contract specified "Toyota TRD Lift" then you should take them to small claim court to settle it. Good luck.

^this right here what you built online and what you signed for at the dealership are two different things. As previously stated if the extras were not specifically written out then you are sol and will have to eat it sucks yes but you have learned an expensive lesson be thankful it wasn’t worse.

To everyone looking for the contract language I think you'll be disappointed. The contract will look like a slightly more expensive version of a stock truck. The 'we owe' form given by the dealership is the specific language you all want to see. Basically a 'we owe' is their documentation of what they promised to make the sale. If it says "lift kit" op got a lift kit. From a sale and delivery point of view what was negotiated was delivered. If you try court for failure to perform on the contract you will be documenting how the terms of the 'we owe' were not met.

I think the service center approach looks much better. They installed a part that voids warranty and causes immediate system malfunction. I feel like you'd need to acknowledge that. If you were feeling ambitious you could use this as the core of disputing the 'we owe'. I mean who would sign an agreement on a leased vehicle that would cause those problems. Some minimum level of competence is a fair assumption... But now you are in court arguing about who should know what. (It would be a small consolation to end with a judgement against you that states you should have known the dealer was incompetent).

Anyway, maybe go back to the dealer with an offer. Fix the truck so that the TSS is functional and warranty the lift so that you can give a positive survey, or you go see a small claims court about how much incompetence you needed to assume on their end.

Good luck op. Sorry you are getting a proper dealership experience.

U got taken advantage of no doubt. But u did pay for the lift u got. They didnt charge u for the trd lift, which would have been over $2000 installed, and then given a cheaper lift.

OP- the dealer put 'lift kit' on the We Owe and they delivered a 'lift kit'. It sucks cause I can see how you thought you were getting a discount on the TRD lift (basically free labor and a slight discount on parts) since you were buying the truck new from them but it looks like there was a misunderstanding. I don't know the dealer's costs but I can see the $1200 being in line for a body lift with dealer markup for installation. By offering you the TRD lift kit installed for another $1200, that would make it $2400 total which is in line with what others are paying for a TRD lift kit installed. Also, remember the TRD lift kit was only released earlier this year so when the dealer said they have installed "hundreds" of these body lift kits I actually believe them. Especially the part where they said people just want the looks of a lifted truck and don't care about performance :(.

If you have an issue with the TSS make an appointment for service and have it looked at but personally I doubt that will give you any leverage in returning the truck. They'll have an opportunity to resolve the issue just like anything else under warranty. Same for the 'other dealership' calling the body lift unsafe. Body lifts have been around for a long time and can be as safe as a suspension lift if done correctly. I don't think that gives you any leverage either unless you can prove it's unsafe based on design or quality of parts and not just another tech's opinion.

I think the only way you can have the dealer resolve the issue in your favor is if the salesman or sales manager actually acknowledges that they agreed to the TRD lift. When you were closing the sale, did you specify TRD lift or did you just assume they would be installing Toyota parts since you knew they existed? Like I stated above, they've probably installed hundreds of body lifts on 2016-2020 3rd gens so I can see the confusion. If you can't remember if you specifically asked for the "TRD lift kit", did you happen to mention the pro grille? You may have some leeway even if you didn't mention "TRD lift" if they agreed you would be getting the pro grille implying it was the Toyota TRD lift. And even then it still wasn't in writing so you'll have to rely on goodwill from the dealership to make it right at a loss to them. Sorry, I know this isn't what you want to hear but all else fails, just enjoy the truck!
