Toyota installed an aftermarket lift kit from amazon instead of TRD on ordered truck.

Then whats the point of a lease? I thought the dealer would be on the hook for repairs such as wear and tear. Im completely ignorant to this so thats why Im asking. So if your brakes wear during the lease agreement your on the hook even though its not your vehicle? I guess I think of it like renting a home or apartment. If the water heater goes out the slum lord normally takes the bill for that. Ya i can see if you wreck the vehicle that you would be liable for those type of repairs.

Did they list a part number for the lift kit and none of the parts are Toyota or trd parts?

so if you ordered a blue truck and the invoice said blue and you get a black truck delivered you’d have to take it because you signed for it?

I mean if your dumb enough to sign for a black truck when you wanted blue. I would hope you would look at your new vehicle before you signed purchase paperwork. I would hope anyone would look over a vehicle they are purchasing before the sign a contract. By signing the contract you are essentially saying sure I wanted blue but this black one is fine. Just dont sign plan and simple. But for OP sounds like its a little different. He thought he was getting something else and didnt look into the fine details. LIttle different than the color of the exterior.

I don't get spending extra money on upgrades if a vehicle is leased. You don't own the vehicle and there's usually all kinds of restrictions such as mileage, damage, etc.. It's like going to Enterprise car rental, renting a basic ford mustang and pay them to install a supercharger in it but you have to return it by 5pm Monday or incur hourly late fees.
OP, take it back to have the TSS issue fixed and just enjoy the truck. TRD lift or not, you won't know the difference.

I see it different which I think the OP needs to clarify. He said the invoice said TRD lift kit and they didn’t install it. They installed something else. To me that’s fraud. But the other guy is saying you have to take what they give you for even if the agreed upon item wasn’t delivered. That’s bonkers to me.

The point of a lease is that it's an alternative form of financing. Because you are basically financing the depreciation and not the entire price of the truck (value at delivery - residual value at end of lease), your payment is lower. This is oversimplified I grant you, but that's the basic premise. You can buy the truck for a stated value at the end of the lease and finance the lease buyout, or turn it in and lease another truck. Other than the fact that you don't actually own the vehicle, your responsibilities for insurance and maintenance are no different than if you owned the truck outright.

I was just commenting on your comparison between colors but yes if it says TRD lift kit and given part number its def fraud. If it just has a generic "lift kit" or "step bars" they can slap on whatever they like. The whole putting on something that effects TSS and is considered "not safe" thats just bad business practices especiallly if they werent straight forward with stating that this would effect safety features.

I mean most dealers wont even let you order TRD pro parts if you dont have a VIN that says its a pro. This whole scenario reeks of Sh*t.

I've read here that some people have had that issue. I however haven't and I've ordered a lot of OEM TRD Pro parts from dealerships across the country.

I get what you’re saying. Unless I read it wrong he ordered it with a TRD lift kit in this post. https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...of-trd-on-ordered-truck.730636/#post-26023898

You're right I mean when the gas is empty the dealer should stop by and fill it up too! Same with the slum lords they should come replace your toilet paper and refill your refrigerator too!

Something isnt adding up or this is the most shady dealer know to man. ANd if thats the case not sure how they are still in business because if this has happened to you it has happened to others. Have you given us all the details and facts OP? Not trying to be rude but this sounds like a combination of your oversight and a predatory dealer. I would just get what you want put on and be done with it. Is 6 plus months of stress and anger worth saving $1200 dollars? I value my mental health more than anything.

I agree and it's one of the reasons I've always avoided them for my personal vehicles. However most commercial leases work the way you describe. My work truck is on a lease and all scheduled maintence services and wear items (brakes, tires) are included, however they do like to try to wiggle-out of things like brakes and tires by claiming 'Driver Abuse'. I've not heard of a consumer-grade lease offering the same sort thing.

No problem. Leases are popular with people who want a new vehicle every 3 years. Just turn it in (the turn-in process is another story), lease a new one, and off you go. People don't usually customize/mod leased vehicles unless the plan is to buy it at the end of the lease term.

Not even the same comparision but if you were renting a home and the whole HVAC system went out would you expect to pony up the 8k to replace it?

LOL you think brake pads are not a consumable it's the same as gas, tires, wiper blades etc... so yea it's the same comparison. If you said caliper failed sure same as if you said house HVAC then your car's a/c going out yes the warranty covers it.

Basically anything covered under a lease is the same as covered under warranty. Nothing else.

    So?

Toyota didn't make the transmission, fuel pump, battery, tires, starter motor, radio, etc.

Brakes was a bad example I get that but you know what I was going after. Should have mentioned something under the power train warranty or like you mentioned a caliper failure. I most certainly would not expect a dealer to fill my tank up but that sure would be nice. Was actually surprised they gave me a full tank when I took delivery on mine. When I bought my Sierra prior to the Tacoma they gave me enough to get to the next exit haha.
