So I bought my 2018 Tacoma about two months ago...salesman told me it could tow 3500 lbs, they could put a hitch on at the dealership, wiring harness fits right there on the bumper where the punch out is. Turns out, toyota is not even selling wiring harness for 2018 Tacoma's EVEN THOUGH they have a punch out on the bumper for the writing to fit.

I know I can get it rigged up under the bumper...BUT WHY SHOULD I HAVE TO RIG IT UP??? This is just crazy to me that they make a removable punch out for the wiring but won't sell the wiring???

I complained at the dealer, called corporate and complained, but needless to say none is doing anything to make it right....

    Any suggestions?

Get the harness from a wrecked one being totalled.

What model did you buy? My 2018 TRD Sport came with a hitch and harness installed OEM. Could be a Canadian thing, however your issue does seem very odd!

I'm kind of confused. You bought a truck without the tow package. You want to tow with it, but there is no plug. You're upset at the dealer because you bought something that didn't have what you ultimately wanted? I'm trying to understand here....

    And welcome to TW!

Of course they have a punch out on a factory bumper. Its a standard bumper that can be used to replace any model package.

Sorry there’s no harness available from factory. Surely there’s some DIY threads out there that might help.

Sounds like you should have gotten the tow package. If you asked the dealership about towing, why didn’t you get it?

Bought in Georgia...bottom line is that if it does not come with tow package, you are out of luck.

The truck is rated to tow, just had no package from the factory. Salesman said "no problemo, we can put it on here"...wrong. Needless to say, my options were A) to buy a more expensive (way more expensive) tacoma that came with tow package and pay for heated seats, power seat adjuster, and all the other fluffy stuff that I did not want to begin with... , or B) take my salesman at his word (haha) that they could put the tow package on afterward...they can do that BTW, but the wiring harness that fit in the slot (they provided on the vehicle) they will not sell...I'm not made of money, so I choose option B

    make better sense?

"Rated to tow" and the tow package are two completely separate concepts.

Just putting a wiring harness on it doesn't mean it has the tow package or is somehow better with towing. If you wanted a truck that could tow and have everything set up, maybe you should get the (gasp!) truck with a towing package. Not the brand's fault they don't sell a standalone harness for a brand new vehicle.

The tow package (at least on the 2nd Gens) was a larger battery, alternator, and trans cooler.

If you don't have the tow package how are you going to tow without a hitch ? Your not going to try to run a ball straight on the bumper are you ?

I'm getting the hitch...that is the easy part, but getting the wiring harness that fits into the punch out on the bumper is not happening...

It's much more than that. OP, look here and READ, it will give you a good idea of what's involved in retrofitting a true factory towing package to a truck that didn't come with it like yours

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/factory-7pin-trailer-harness-installation.390335/

Perhaps we should ask, what are you needing to tow?

Maybe go out on the lot, find a truck with the harness on it and use that vin when they look for the part. The part may just not be pulling up because the vin on ur truck didnt come with it. Its kinda crazy they cant get a part tht they make.

    Thanks...once again.

I was told this would not be an issue and they did this all the time...

No it's because that towing harness isn't separate from the body harnesses on the so equipped trucks. If you want the 7 pin you need pretty much ALL the body harnesses and fuse boxes and swap them out or go to a wrecker and get the wires you need with the help of a good EWD. That's what I did on my second gen

My truck has a tow package but not heated or power seats or any of that other"fluffy stuff" as you would say.
